I was in a tree stand Sunday morning and saw something I almost couldn't believe.I hunt some bottom land hardwoods with a solid palmetto understory from three feet to eight feet high.We climb high to look down into it.I heard some crashing noise which means either a buck chasing a doe,a spooked deer or hogs on the move about 200 yards away.I then saw movement about 70-80 yards away in almost the same direction,a tan reddish animal but then saw it climb one of the hundreds of leaning or down trees from the last hurricane.I though a bobcat but after looking in my monocular I saw it was a coyote climbed about 6-7 foot high and looking also in the direction of the noise.It was the weirdest feeling both of us predators up in each a tree waiting for game to show itself.After about 3-minutes he got down headed their way and in a few more minutes I heard a deer blow and move way out of range.Here is the terrain we both hunt I can understand why they are climbing trees to hunt also.Kip
 

Cool story! I've seen goats in trees, makes sense a coyote could do it!

Seems like a "Lone Wolf" would climb a tree  

I have seen red and gray fox climb trees hunting chipmunks and such.

I bet that was really cool to experience!

I've seen gray foxes climb, but never a red. That's one reason reds are such easy prey for yotes.

Coyotes can learn. When they grow thumbs, we are all in a heap of trouble.

The only one I ever seen in a tree was one I hung there. But I'd like to see one do it !!! I'm sure they do time to time...Jeff

Seen a Black and Tan Coon Hound climb 35' out a leaning tree 15' up over a swamp.  There was no coon at the top and the dog couldn't turn around........SPLASH!

I have seen that too and was amazed. It was a dead tree leaning at about 45 degrees, big ole yote walked right up and sat down. Stayed there for ten minutes, then kept on keeping on.

I can't beleive how adaptive these coyotes get.

I also saw a gray fox climb about 10-12' up a tree, but a coyote, I'd never guess they would.

Now if I could just see a partridge in a pear tree.

BWD, if you saw that partridge in that pear tree he would still be froze tight after the last several weeks even in GA!!!!
