I purchased one from Cabelas about 4 years ago. The best investment I ever made! I've used mine at 10500ft in Colorado with a rain storm that I thought we were going to blow away, no issues whatsoever. Have had the snow piled on top and once again, no issues. Have run a wood stove and propane heat and prefer the propane. I do not think you will be disappointed.
I have the 12x12 and it will sleep 2-men, cots and all their gear very comfortably. 3-Men on cots is OK as well. 4-men on cots is a little crowded but we have done it before. Any questions, feel free to PM me.

I purchased one last year for a 2 week in Montana. We had some rain but no severe weather so to speak. We did have some wind nothing over 30mph but it held great in that. I was really impressed with it and plan to use it again this year in Colorado. I will follow this thread and hopefully someone has some experience in terrible weather and such!

I have the outfitter and at only 30 pounds and 25 lbs if you cut your own center pole it sleeps 6 cots.

You can have an open fire in it or wood stove etc. Summer time we have slept 10 ppl inside on thermarests with our gear.

I use it for all my camping including winter.



The first setup is a bit of a chore (learning curve and putting the guide strings on), but after that it's a snap and I can do it by myself in about 15 minutes if I use the center pole that comes with it.



I have been in some rough weather in her in the yukon and she holds up great. I use it horse back hunting or when we take the Pinzgauer..no problem.

I have used mine from the north country to south TX and have zero complaints.  Great tent.

That tipitent thing looks interesting for cool / cold weather but pretty rough for a hot, rainy night.

Not the Alaknak but I have been using the similar constructed Bighorn ll for years now.  Hot,windy,wet or cold,the tent comes through with flying colors.Materials are top shelf and the tent is very easy to set up, even solo.Along with a quality woodstove I think you would be very happy with the either of the Cabelas tent.

Actually if you open the vents and the front door a bit it's pretty cool in hot weather. the big vents can bring alot of air depending on it position to the wind and if you have it in the trees.

Again if you are on a thermarest you are on the cool ground and if you get the mosquito sleeping tent piece you can sleep with a wide open sleeping bag and not even get bugged by insect...real nice feature.

TTT...for anyone who missed it. Still lookin' for someone who has used it in REALLY bad weather!

Used the Alaknak for three years in all kinds of weather.bought it in partners with hunting buddy.used a small stove when weather was cold. he moved away and bought my half, i was going to buy another one, but they had a sale on the big horn, and i bought it. both tents are great. Only thing i liked different between the two is the center support is on the outside of the Big Horn tent. eather one would be a good investment.
