Anyone do airbrushing?  What type of paints do you use?  I am looking for something that is water soluble.  

The few arrows that I have airbrushed look great.

Is That akin to Spray Painting??     Sorry, I just couldnt pass that up.      

i did some airbrushing years ago and used a water based acrylic paint, it worked well, but i never painted on wood which is what i'm assuming your painting. think it was called areoflash, got it at artist and display

I use water based acrylics made for taxidermists.One of the most popular brands now is called Wildlife Colors.They are used a lot to paint fish so there is a huge selection of colors including,pearlescents and metallics.

They claim after drying overnight,you can topcoat with laquer,urethane or epoxy.Mckenzie Taxidermy supply has them.

I just have never used any on arrows.

Do you have any pics of the arrows you painted?

I also assume you are talking about wood but I'm still hoping someone comes up with a way to paint carbons w/o affecting the spine etc.  I'd love to get some all white carbons.  AFAIK the only only choice for painted carbons is Vic Archerys breast cancer awareness pink arrows. I guess full length wraps would work too for an all white look but I'd think that would change spine drastically

No pic's yet, I am still learning how to use the airbrush.  I did make up a couple and they look good.

I will be doing, wood, carbon, and aluminum.

It's not water-based, but I've had excellent results using Rust-O-Leum through an air brush for cresting arrows.

Taxidermy supply houses have all kinds of what you need. You can google taxidermy supply and the sites will pop up.

Looking forward to seeing your work Paul, please post pics as soon as you have them! I got an airbrush kit for Christmas for this exact same thing. I'm looking forward to playing around with it myself. I will be keeping an eye on this thread.

I used the water based dye from bingham supply through an air brush to color the curley maple in the 'flames' on this bow. The dye let the swirls show in the wood whereas a paint would have covered them up.

Thanks! I know it looks like a paint job but the black in the riser is actually gaboon ebony. The flames are dyed curley maple and the pinstripes on the flames are .030 yellowheart. The only 'paint' is the dye in the curley maple!

well you can look on m****, but i got a new one pretty cheep years ago. as far as how easy it is depends on your art talent some, but alot on your masking abilities. i do most any art projects free hand, so i never got into it. over all i'd say it's simple to do, like using spray paint with more controlled spray.
