I was watching my Fred Bear DVD set last night when I noticed Fred shooting a shotgun righthanded.

I think I read years ago that Fred switched to lefthanded bows to cure terrible target panic. Is this correct?  Was Fred right handed?

This 4 DVD set is a MUST HAVE for any bowhunters collection!

Yes, Fred was right handed. I believe shooting a bow was the only thing he did left handed.

John, Yes indeed Fred was right handed and did cut part of a finger off and switched to left handed bow shooting. Can't say exactly which finger was involved in the accident but it must not have impacted his gun shooting to the extent it did his bow shooting.

My understanding is that he did indeed suffer from target panic but that isn't why he switched.  As you watch Fred shoot there is no hesitation at full draw...when that arrow gets back it is gone. He felt this helped with his target panic.

I too have the 4 DVD set and agree completely it is a must have. I have it playing in my shop anytime I am out there. Lots of cool info.

John, the newly opened history and collecting forum might be another place to post your question.
Proud Dad to two awesome Kids and a very passionate pig hunter.

Right handed but left eye dominant.

The story I read was that when he was young he had an farm accident that chopped off a small part of one of his right hand fingers (he was right-handed naturally).

And that is why he shot left handed(according to what I read)-so he could hold the bow with his right and pull the string with his left.

There may be someone out there that knows from primary research the answer-but not me.  As much as I would  have liked to meet him, He was gone before I really became interested in archery.

Thanks for the information...
These DVDs are just the best. Fred for sure "lived the life"!

I was amazed to hear Fred say that when he first started to film (history of the bow and arrow)his hunts he was hoping NOT to see deer.  He was afraid of shooting poorly on film!  WOW...
