Just a thought, Would 2 or 3 inches of aluminum added to the outside of my MFX increase or decrease spine? I know the weight at the tip would decrease spine but the active flexible part of the arrow should decrease, would that stiffen or balance with the increase in tip weight? Just wondering as my arrows are spined perfectly and I want to toughen up my arrows for stumps, birds and such but don't want to change spine. Bill

Doesn't make the slightest difference. 3" of 2018 shafting weighs 7gn (according to my scale) & doesn't affect spine on anything other than a sub-atomic level.

Foot away!

Also, I will add that one inch of footing is plenty to get the added strength you are looking for and will for shure not effect arrow spine. This works well for me!

3" of 2018=7 grains?!?     Wow that seems very light for three inches of 2018. Should be about 12 grains per inch for 2018s. Better check your scale.   :)

2018 are 12.3 GPI and they won't stiffen up the spine of a arrow unless you put 8" or so on the shaft.

no footing on my beman mfx's 500 spine and i missed my deer target in my basement tonight and no damage to the arrow that i could see except for slightly popping out the nock, and that was less than a 1/16 of an inch.the cement block wall has a small nick in it now though

tough little arrows!!

Tomas

I have 1 in. of 2018 on my Beman 500s and everything is good.
