Really glad you're OK, but Im a FIRM believer, you get what you pay for, maybe that's why Im always broke ....

I know how you feel! That has happened TWICE to me - both high end custom made bows.  Both exploded in the same place your did and both bowyers refunded or replaced the bow.  The first was the first custom made I ordered and it blew up during the first hunt with it at full draw while on a tripod with nothing around to grab on to.  Luckily, I only ended up with a black eye and some gray hairs.  Will sure make you gun shy with a new bow though.

I've had one top end recurve made for me blow apart on the upper limb. It was just out of warranty though and for what they wanted for limbs I put toward equip and I decided to make my own. Yeap you guessed it, all was going great till about the 12th bow, had one upper limb blow apart! Haven't had anymore problems since but man that sure is scary! Can happen to anyone.

Probably got bounced around on the long boat ride over here. Maybe some invasive specie insect was chewing/boring into the wood before/after the build. I'm sure they will replace it, probably make a thousand a day.
