took the bow out this afternoon. I was planning on hunting one of my stands over looking a little valley with a creek running through it and a hill on the back side. As I was walking down the cut bean field, a couple of muzzle loader hunters pull up to hunt the neighbors property. Being as how my stand is only about 50yrds from the property line I decided to just walk down the creek aways and find a couple of trees to lean against for the afternoon. Saw a few does but they were around 75yrds out and eventually meandered off.

Just before quitin' time I hear a red fox bark on the other side of the hill. so I kiss the back of my hand a few times. And without any warning, there he is standing 25yrds in front of me looking right at me. His fur was fully prime, a more beautiful creature I've never seen.

And then it happened, I got the worst case of shakes I think I've ever had... he turned broadside and I sent an arrow on it's way, it was deflected by some brush and sailed harmlesly to his right. He started to leave, but then went over to check where the arrow had went. I quickly nocked another arrow (shaking like a leaf in tornado winds )and proceded to miss by at least a mile and a half. He starts to leave again, so I purse my lips together  and let out my best mouse squeak. he turns and starts back towards me, this time he clearly sees me shaking like mad and turns to leave, I send my last arrow towards him, missing again and burying my broadhead firmly into the base of a tree. The sound of it makes him stop again and he looks back at me.

There I am, completly shook and out of arrows, so I simply said to him, "Go on bud, you're safe, my quiver is empty" and with that he made a hasty retreat.

I tell ya, I can't remember the last time I got a case of the fever like that

I had an exciting day, but it involved trying to deliver mail and dealing with a shipload of snow. I wish I could have been talking with a fox.

He put the fox mojo on you.  I've had several come by my stands this year but I never shoot.  I'd rather just watch them.

I did that in AZ on a javie hunt a few years back.  Terry and I climbed a big hill that Rusty said he saw some javies on that morning.  LOL

Anyway we see a fox and set up with me as the shooter and Terry calling.  Then bam the fox is 10yds in front of me facing head on.  I draw and shoot.  My broadhead went right between his front and rear legs and down in the canyon behind him.  He spun and ran after the bird that jsut buzzed his privates.  LOL

Fox fever is just as bad as buck fever, maybe worse  

I could have had one dead to rights last fall, counted coup on it (Incredible Shrinking Woman's Hunt). Trouble is, you are not allowed to shoot them in Faquier County, and that is where I see them all the time.

I know I would have some mixed feelings if I did shoot one, as I have no source of recipes for fox.

I got the only case of buck fever (before the shot) I ever had on a coyote earlier this year so I know where you are coming from.

...and people ask me why I always carry 6 arrows!

I got Fox Fever once a long time ago. Was in a night club when this readhead walked over to me and asked me to dance........ I'd better not go there.

Larry,it was only about 15 degrees today,add a little windchill and it was probably much colder.
Probably close to hypothermic thats what it was.My pal Larry ain't ascared of no little foxes.

should have a few heat sinking arrows.  Next time...
