With the help of Stu Millers Dynamic spine tester I was able to tune my GT 55/75 cut to 28" with 220gr phantom and 50gr brass insert giving me an extreme foc. Has anybody noticed increased penetration with the extreme foc over other setups you've had?

Yep!!!!!!!...no doubt about it.

Jeff: Where on Long Island do you live? I grew up in East Rockaway and my wife is from Baldwin. Can't believe how crowded it is there especially in Nassau, Co. It's a good place to be FROM unless you are out on the East side of the Island.

Jeff I'm working on a UFOC setup based on the Victory V-forceHV3 350 shaft. it has a spine of .350 by is only 6.4 GPI @ 29" it # 185.6 grs I'm going to use a Bohning F-nock 4-3" feathers and a 6" cap wrap that is 6gr. On the business end I went with 145gr Snuffer glued to a 100gr steel broadhead insert with 50gr of lead melted inside it, a 100gr brass arrow insert with a 50gr goldtip brass weight added for a total # of 653grs it should give me FOC in the 30% range somewhere.

Absolutely!! I like the head weight to be at least 200grn, I've noticed a significant difference! Still only shoot a 500grn arrow!

That is surely an extreme setup.  Using the DSC I show the weight to be right where you mentioned and an calculated FOC of 32.8% !!!

It also shows the dynamic spine to be 41.6# which begs the question of what bow your planning to use with it?

Yep. I shot one this year with 250gr up front on a 29" Cabela's Stalker Xtreme. Blew through it like butter, arrow went 5" into a gravel bank on the other side.

Definitely!

My MFX's have 100 grain inserts and 200 - 220 grain tips.

Yup! Here was my set-up this year. At 22 yards it blew through my buck in an eye-blink!

Yep...I've been enjoying the benefits of EFOC for many years.  The performance of an EFOC arrow and a sharp BH are second to none...especially on lower poundage bows.

My uncle had an EFOC for many years, but after acquiring type 2 diabetes, he got rid of most of it....

I have trouble with ETP (Extreme Thought Process) so I tend to follow what has worked so well for so long.  You know, like an old friend you don't throw away because a new one came along that had a new coat, or fancier car 8^).

I'm not sure what my arrow front of center is, nor do I really care.  What I know about it, is it will slice through an adult whitetail with little effort, and let a blood trial that is short and adequate.  It is user friendly, sharpens easily, flies perfectly, and like that old friend....is reliable.  

However, it's not always shiney, and it doesn't require mathematical forumlas to establish proper flight or balance.  It simply sits there, waiting for the next adventure.....quite capable for any outing it is offered.

By all means use whats works for you and gives you the most confidence. Some boldly go were no man has gone before, thank goodness Christopher Columbus was not satisfied with the status quo.

EFOC is something that I feel improves arrow flight, I need all the help I can get as my form and release are not always perfect. I will take that advantage to the field. Dr. Ashby's data shows increase in penetration. I have not shot enough animals with EFOC to get a large sample on my own but am willing to learn from others and apply this knowledge. The couple dozen I have shot arrow performance was very good.

George, just call it very high foc instead of extreme and give it a whirl. My girlfriend has very high foc and I would not change a thing. Glad your uncle got his efoc under control.

kid all ya like, but the benefits of efoc are very real and quite in yer face.  

the added stability, penetration, and dart-like flight characteristics make it a no-brainer way to go for me.  

using a weighted footing makes for a more durable carbon/alum shaft, too.

yes, there just might be a bit more arc to the arrow's flight at hunting distances, but for most folks not enuf to confuse the gray matter aiming sight.

in any event, you won't know if efoc is viable for you unless you give it a solid try.

For those of us who shoot lower weight bows it's a "force multiplier". I'm barely in the extreme area but at 20% it's a very noticible difference in penetration.

Iv been shooting heavy FOC arrows for a long time there is NO Doubt it showed increased penetration, as well as many other benefits.

Sure if your shooting soft little whitetails its not necessary but some of us are after bigger things, even then it has unquestionable benefits for those wanting to improve the performance on lower poundage bows.

My avatar deer is from Kansas. I've never been lucky enough to get a big deer in suffolk yet. I hunt every weekend and I will usually see one really nice buck a year. Now that you can shoot extra bucks after filling you doe tags and a 3 week shotgun season the quality of bucks have really gone down in suffolk over the past 15 years. I am looking forward to try this new arrow setup on a deer before my january 10th hog hunt in florida.

Obviously though, efoc still will still not compensate for poorly spined shafts - - arrows that have not stabilized when they impact the target. I've learned the hard way.
