Good evening all. Well I woke up this mourning; the wife was at work so I decided to take the Widow for a walk. Went to Fort Hunter Liggett, a 165,000-acre military training base that allows public hunting. This is some of the best public land in this state, IMO, and is only about one hour from my house; it holds a good number of hogs, deer, turkey, yotes, bobcat and elk. You show up in the mourning at the check in station and pick a training area that is open to hunting that particular weekend; there are 30 areas to choose from. I picked area 10, it holds quite a few hogs and to my surprise when I got to the parking area I was the only one in this area. We have had a bit of rain the past few days and the roads were close off in this area and I guess I was the only one that likes to walk.

Got parked and geared up an off I went, this is what the area looks like just out off the truck.





Here is some evidence of why I like to take the Widow for walks here.

About half way up to the top of a ridge that I what to do some glassing from I stop and let the evaporative cooling system that god gave me a chance to do a little work. A little cool breeze on the old dome will cool a guy right off. One of the perks of having a slight receding hairline

Well after a couple of more ridges and more glassing I decide to go back to a little valley floor that showed some good sign and sit there until dark in hopes that some pork will pop out before shooting light is gone. When I got back to there I found a nice little tree stand that I though I would make use of.

So all you Midwest and Eastern guys don't laugh at our California tree stands they are comfy. I actually dosed off in this thing





Well that's it found myself a tree to sit next to until dark and all was quite, no show on the pork but hope you enjoyed my walk as much as I did. Until next time.

You would think so but about 90% of this stuff is hidden from the eye. If you did not go down and walk the base of this ridge you would never know that in the tree line at the base of it there is a large creek bed that runs the full lenght of the ridge that is just tore up with rooting all up and down the banks of the creek. A lot of guys will just glass and leave but if you invest some boot leather you will find a lot of spots that hold hogs that you would not know is there.

Snow?  Snow?? O you mean that white cold stuff.

This was December 13th at about 2:00 pm and a chilly 52 degrees.

Horse?  Horse?? O you mean those 4 legged things that look like elk with no horns. They are about as rare as snow around these parts.

Would you care to adopt a 40 yo man and take him hunting...LOL great place you lucky dog.
