Well I finally made up my mind. Looked at honey locust (Rhino) but it just didn't feel right.

So, I ordered a Halfbreed. 66", 46@28" (which should be 50 pounds for me), Yew belly and back with darker bamboo cores (hopefully not as much contrast), Wenge riser and tips, dark brown laced wrap and a satin finish.

It should be a beauty. I'm pretty pumped. I was going to go for a t/d but opted not to so that I could save some money, plus I just wasn't sure about the grip. Hope I don't regret that.

Anyway, to all of you Hill fans out there, I'm startin' my collection now(does two count as a collection?). Should be here in time to try to bust a bunny.

awesome.  Can't beat a hill.

SCATTERSHOT

Congrats. That's one of my favorite Hills. You'll love it. What did you specify for the grip? (Straight, dished, size, etc.)

Irish Archer

I went with the straight grip as it's the only Hill I've handled.

The used one I picked up has a 2" deep grip. It measures five and a half inches around the grip. It feels pretty good to me so I told Craig to stay with that.

Hills are very new to me but I'm gettin' hooked.  :goldtooth:

That's pretty close to what I shoot - love it.  Can't wait to see pics of yours.

Randy,
Bought the Cheetah and Big 5 used, but from what I can tell, the Cheetah's riser wood is Padauk, and the Big 5 is either Bubinga. The Wesley is African Ebony, and the far right is a custom Wesley I ordered from Craig. It is Claro Walnut.

Sounds nice Irish,  The "Half Breed" is an excellent choice.  Your going to have a fine bow there.  I think any bow you choose from Craig would be an excellent choice.

I've been thinking long and hard about a "Rhino" myself but I keep telling myself wait until I get my new "Big Five" and order after that.  Craig told me 3-5 weeks.  So I just finished my 4th, maybe next week.

Besure and give us some pictures and review on your bow.

Doing business with Craig has always been enjoyable.  I was looking at the prices of some production bows.

Martin Savanah $529.99
Martin Bamboo viper $719.99
Bear takedown supreme $1399.99

Now Howard Hill archery longbows

"bow blank with 4 lams"   $325.00
"Tembo" (cheaptest finished bow) $475.00
"Wesley Special" (top of the line) $525.00

You can have a custom made to order bow from Howard Hill cheaper than you can buy an off the self production bow.

I know how I will go.
