OK Guys what is the best place in the country to live as far hunting goes. Deer ( whitetails and Mulies ) elk turkeys antelope small game.

Live in the south where you can hunt deer and hogs .Travel for the rest .

Depends.  Numbers or size?  Public or private land?  I hate to broadcast it, but Arkansas has LOTS of public land with good numbers of deer and small game with variable turkey populations, although they closed the fall turkey season this year.  There aren't a lot of monster bucks, but there are certainly some nice ones if that's your game.  Kansas has lots of nice bucks, but fewer numbers overall and almost no public land.  There are a lot of walk in hunting areas avaliable, but they tend to be a section or less and surrounded by posted land, so you can imagine what even a little bit of pressure does.  Upstate New York has good hunting, but brutal cold.  I haven't lived other places so that's the extent of my input.

Missouri doesn't have very many deer and none of those are large racked bucks. There's a few hundred turkey scattered over the entire state. I can't remember the last time I saw a rabbit. There are squirrels here but they all moved into town where you can't hunt them. I wouldn't look here twice if I were looking for some place with good hunting....lol

Well if you don't mind a little snow now and then, sounds like you need to move to CO or MT.

Both have abundace of game (except hogs) and it's public land.

Heh heh, yeah. I probably shouldn't be spreading our secrets.  I sure wouldn't do it in a "slick" sporting mag (all of which subscriptions I have allowed to expire the past few years, but that's a whole other thread), but I guess a few trad guys can't hurt too much.  

I do believe Mudd might be pulling our leg just a little bit!     Being from NWA, I drive through and fish in MO a lot...

What about Alaska

The logistics of hunting can be tough and/or expensive here in AK.  I nearly always have great "hunting" trips and the quality of game is second to not many.  I would not go so far to say that I usually hunt in a target-rich environment.

Any of your big Zoo's would work...LOL I think every state has it's pro's and con's If there was just one hunting heaven we all would live their and there would be no room for the animals.

Mudd, you're exactly right about MO. I drive 9 hours to hunt up there every year, just because I have friends there, and we hardly ever see anything.    

I would have to disagree with Mudd (no offence) I'm in south cental MO and see an abundance of game. went out one week after rifle season and spotted 8 deer in about 3 hours. The squirls drive me nuts, I see atleast 5 or 6 every time i'm in my stand. My son has put 8 on the table this fall. And we have the third largest population of turkeys acording to NTWF. The rabbits are hard to find but the coyotes are pluntiful

Alabama is slammed full of whietails and you can kill over 100 a year. We also have a bunch of turkeys and finding land to hunt on is really a easy thing to do.

No one will ever expect this, but CA is better than most will ever know.

I grew up in SW GA and though deer and hogs aren't as plentiful, we got them.  Hunting hogs in open mountains like the Tejon Ranch, less than an hour from LAX is a treat that I don't mind paying for.  

The deer hunting is mediocre at best unless in the best areas, but there is public land all over and hunting + hard work and beautiful scenery makes me love it.

We got the only Tule Elk herd, sheep, pronghorn, muleys, hybrids, blacktails, hogs, all kinds of feathered rats, incredible bear hunting, and the list goes on.

Now, if I were looking to just be where I want to be for hunting sake, ie lose the wife and kids as the Mrs. wouldn't do it, it is AK.  I was set to be stationed at Kodiak before I decided to ask for her hand.

Dang expensive hand if you ask me, cost me lots more than money, but worth every penny... Most of the time anyways!

I just had to steal this one,"a target-rich environment.". I immediately thought of one of my very best friends Kenny. Kenny is a recent retire-re that I am tutoring as best I can the fine art of traditional archery A-Z.
On a stump shooting outing with Butch(another good friend) and Kenny, Kenny made the statement that "he was getting really good at this because every time he shot he got a leaf!"  hahaha!! We were shooting in "a target-rich environment.". It's really tough to complete a good release when you can't hardly breath for laughing.
