Well, I got to my spot in the AM just before dawn on Monday with a little frost and 10 degree wind chill. This is Texas.....I ain't used to it OK! Saw a little spike and 2 does. Went and took a warm nap after that. Then in the afternoon I went back out. Things were a BIT more icy now and the freezing rain was doing it's thing making everything look all white and crunchy...LOL! I nestled in a Cedar and sat perfectly still for 2 hours (I did have to knock some ice off my arrow).

Then a small 8 point came in the wheat about 12-15 yards and I started to smile *crackle*. Had a weird rack, lots of broken tines. Then a 2 year old 6 point got within 6-7 yards from me and he wasn't big enough to shoot either. Plus the little guy wouldn't let the nice fat doe come in. He kept running her off. I wanted some meat! Doesn't he understand!?? So I watched them with the wind blowing ice everywhere....perfectly still. After they left I got out of the Cedar and walked back to my car crunching the whole way. I got back to camp and told what I had seen and left for home trying to beat the storm........no dice!

Now I'm stuck on I-20 on the side of an iced over interstate sleeping in my car with no heater (gas issue) overnight. It can be done, but I don't recommend it.      :knothead:

What a great trip! I've never had so much fun sitting perfectly still for 2 hours watching deer I can't shoot in an ice storm and then being stranded on the side of the road overnight. I wouldn't have given it up for anything! It was one of the best times I've ever had as a new hunter.

Settling up against Mother Nature has a way of opening up your senses with appreciation. Stay warm. Great story!

10 day forecast for Odessa says 67 degrees on Saturday! You Texicans had me worried for a minute as I plan to be around there with Curtis in February.

Fido, sounds like a perfect day in the wild. Glad you made it through the ice storm.

Was 21 degrees last night, had to put the horse blanks on the horses. Altho today was bearable - in the 40's....

Still strange weather for this time of year - normally i don't remember it getting cold until february for like 10 days and then back into the 50's lol...

Double Tee

I am going on a pig/deer hunt next week and I'm hoping its warmer then! It has been down close to zero at nite here and in the teens for highs in the day.I haven't wanted to get out and practice like I need to before I leave, maybe this weekend it will be better? Just think how cold it would be if we didn't have global warming LOL!!!
