Anyone set any goals for 2010?

It's kind of a tradition for my family to set goals for the next year around the Thanksgiving table.  The subject came up on an elk forum so I thought I'd throw it out and see what some of your goals are related to hunting.  Here are mine.

First, foremost, and unfortunately the hardest to know how to approach is getting my fire back for hunting.

In conjunction with that this is what I plan on working at:

1)Primary: Secure an elk hunt either through the draws, landowner tag, or OTC. In the event I draw something like a sheep, goat, or moose tag the elk will become secondary. And, to kill an elk!

2)Physical fitness. To get in the best shape of my life. To increase strength, stamina, and to get to an acceptable BMI level. Compete in an Xterra.

3)Gear. To continue on my quest to acheive the lightest yet highest quality gear and master it.

4)Accuracy. 100% at 35 yards with my recurve.

5)Calls. To go from sufficient to great.

There it is. Let's see where we can get by next September!

I have been waiting six years for a turkey tag here in Utah. Now they switched the hunt to an over the counter purchase so I really want a gobbler. I have purchased archery elk tags for the for ten years and have only killed one cow with a compound, so elk are on my list as well. Good luck to you.

I have always been a goal setting type.
My fun goal for 2010 is to visit as many 3d events as possible and have some fun. For about 7 years I attended as Sipsey River vendor and worked my tail off. I enjoyed it, but it was a lot of work. In 2009 I sold out to Big Jim and had planned to go to the events for fun, but I had two operations and that really slowed me down. I missed a lot of events. Not much fun in 2009.
This coming year, I will be attending a couple of events as a "Hot Shower" vendor, but most I plan to attend for fun and shooting only. My goal is to punch some holes in the foam!

- spend more time learning about tuning and working on bow/arrow setup

- move up in bow weight and see how I like it

- hunt more often

- get proficient enough w/ recurve to compete in the 900 round held by peacock archery each labor day wknd in belton tx.  shoot a bunch of 3d courses.

- hunt and kill a free ranging Goat/Sheep (that was a 2009 goal that went unmet)

- tag out on white tailed deer (thats 5 deer...got close this year but dont think I will tag out by the time work ramps up Jan 1)

Simply put I would like to shoot a deer. Any deer, doesn't matter to me. 2010 will be my tenth year hunting so I figure my first big game bow kill would be a good way to celebrate it.

Take my first elk after several years of trying.  I will be hunting in WY, CO, or ID.  Will see how the draws play out.

Continue to learn the public hunting areas near my home.  I just moved here a year ago and I am chalking this year up to a "learning season".

Take more than one whitetail in a year with a bow.  May seem like a greedy goal to some but it is something I would like to do.

If I accomplish half of this I will have had a good year, but you have to aim high.

My goal for the upcoming year is to increase my effective range to a solid 25 yards.  I am currently comfortable to about 20, but that next 5 yards seems like a long ways.

Mine are to be a better husband, father and of course Hunter, learn from my mistakes and those of others and be humble and get wisdom from those who know more than me.And pass it all onto my children for they are our future and they are gonna need all of our help!

Shoot, hunt, have fun, shoot, have fun, hunt, hunt, hunt, and may be have some fun!!! I would also like to become the master of some of the longbows I have. Oh yea....have fun and hunt!!! Maybe a bear or elk hunt would be good also!
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

spend more time in the bush chasing sambar ...get fit ...hunt for elk in the USA ... teach my dad to shoot his longbow that i bought for him ... stump shoot more ... take time to take some " newbies " out bush,  hunting and shooting longbows ... whack a lot of rabbits [ all missed this year !!! ] and in general  be nice and understanding of my fellow man  .

This may actually belong on the trail cam thread but I got a pic of a really big doe in '06.

I had a chance at her last year but....well...it's one of those long stories...she won the contest.

I hadn't seen her this season while hunting or on my trial cam. But last nite she showed up. She is my goal for 2010. And no, she is not a buck that has shed its antlers.

Wow! Looks more like a small cow. Big deer.

My goals are to start making all my own trad equipment, bow, arra's, maybe a quiver, and strings...

Hunt more for sure.  Have done very little this year due to work.  Stock pile more hunting and camping gear.  become a better longbow shooter.

Shoot a deer, turkey, and coyote.  With trad of course.
