Whitetail Chaser

Greetings fellow Tradgangers,

It is with great sadness that I report tomorrow morning will be my last large mammal hunt until next fall.  My freezer is empty, my nerves are irritated, and my confidence is shot.  I cannot remember my last hunt where I actually saw a deer.  I think it was last week sometime.

I will hunt an area not too far from the truck tomorrow because the weather calls for 0 degrees.  Some of you may hunt in swim trunks in that kind of stuff, but for me that is COLD!

This season just didn't click for me.  Lots of rain in the early season (and HOT!!).  Not enough snow in the late season (no mule deer migration).  Just one of those years.

Thanks for listening.  I know there will be other guys and gals in my shoes later this year.  What's a good recipe for tag soup?

To you hunters with seasons into mid-January and February--I envy you.  You are blessed.

Sincerely,
Brett McCown

That's why they call it hunting and not shopping lol. Good luck on your last try.

Sounds kinda like too much pressure and not enough fun!

Brett,

Dang that's not good.  Lots of great areas to hunt near you too.  I spent a lot of time in the old Nason Creek Unit up Steven's pass.  Might as well go high and find the mulies.  They will be right at the snow level.

I knew people on Vashon that would pay you to take them:-) Don't know if you can hunt there still. Good luck on your hunt!!

IMHO hunting may be important and it is but its not the end of archery if its done right and with heart. I'm sorry you are feeling down but fling some arrows and see if your spirit doesn't get lifted with the arch of a well shot arrow.
God bless you!

Hey brett,

I hope something turns around for you. As a fellow washingtonian I feel your frustration.  We really must have some of he most limited big game hunting opportunities in the country(For those who don't know it's one deer a year here). what i wouldn't give for a few doe tags, or to be able to hunt the rut w/out driving across half the state.  I could go on but I should probably not so good luck brett, and like mudd says at least try to fling some arrows and have fun.

Some of my  best  hunts have been on the last day, last hour. When it gets to be this time of year and things are winding down I want to hit those guys who keep saying the pursuit is the destination. For me, I like having to drag something out, cutting it up and putting in the freezer and from there to the grill or the oven. I know how empty the woods can seem at times but go out don't let your guard down..
