I am feeling the call to put together some woodies and would like to maintain  a 20% + foc. I am leaning toward the Surewood shafts and a broadhead in the 150-160 grain range. I am also contemplating the internal footing as an option. Also, I like the flight I get with tapered shafting, but I don't THINK that the Surewoods are available tapered. Now the questions-
1. Shooting 52# at 28" with a 28" draw, what spine shafts would be required to meet the above specs? (hi-perf. string, modern recurve)
2. It there a source for the Surewood shafting already tapered?
3. Is there a source to have the shafting professionally tapered?
4. What is the most common material for use as an internal footing?
5. For those if that have tried the internal footing, are there any negatives?
I realize that that there are no exact/precise answers due to my release, other form issues ect. but I am just looking for a starting point and some real world experiences. Thanks in advance! Mike

Raptorarchery.com will taper the shafting for you.
Depending on whether or not your bow is cut past center and how far, you may run out of spine even at 100#. Achieving 20%+ FOC is a challenge with woodies.
Tungsten is ideal as an internal footing.
Braveheart archery sells the jig and internal footing material. You can also foot with aluminum arrow shafting and go with screw on heads and adapters. Ultimately spine will be the obstacle.

if you have a belt sander go to wes wallace's page...find the accessories, you'll see the tims taper jig there.  Sweet machine imho!

Mike, for what it's worth, my current set of barreled poplar arrows weigh around 600 grains at 28 1/4 bop, and with 160 snuffers the foc is over 17%. You should be able to achieve the 20% with single tapers and similar broadhead weight. 190's would get there for sure. For your bow, I recommend at least 90# shafts, and you may need a little more.

Let me know..I just ordered some shafts a couple days ago and plan on doing this very thing so I'll be set up for 23/64ths down to 5/16ths.  Can easily do 11/32 down to 5/16ths if you want.  Otherwise the jig itself is super easy to use.
