Yup, Josh. That's my first buck ever. Even the one I hit with my car was a doe, lol! I've never been much of a horn hunter. I like the meat. It was nice to take a buck, but to be honest, had a nice, fat doe stood in the same spot, I would have been writing a slightly different story. No complaints on this buck though...it's backstrap on the grill for supper tonight! The antlers will look nice in my den too!    ;)

Now,... for a black bear in Kachemak bay, eh?

That is a very handsome buck.

Nice bow too...jason is starting mine next week, is that the walnut riser?

Russ-what quiver are you and you son using on your Kanatis?  How do you like them?  Been thinking of puting one on mine.

I like the black bear idea Tom. I have a savings account going    ;)

Katie,

I use an Eagle Flight and really like it. It is very light weight. Dave uses a Linx by Thunderhorn and also likes that. I have a Linx too, but like the EF better due to the lighter weight on the Kanati. It's almost like shooting bare bow. If you like to add a little mass for stability, then the Linx is a great quiver. I think that's why Dave likes his. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

I like a bow quiver. I usually have a backpack with me, so hanging a quiver on my back just doesn't work out for me. You also don't have to reach around to find an arrow. If you have your bow, you have your arrows.

Russ it is unbelievable that we are shooting through deer of that size with 45-50 lb bows   :)

Congrats on a fine deer !

These bows put a lot more zip on an arrow than any others I have tried. My arrow weighs about 520 grains. I think Dave's were right at 500. That also helps.

Shooting them in the chest helps too.

Awesome Russ! I have been away all weekend so I missed this thread, thanks for sending me the link. I will be adding the father son pics to my sight real soon! Congrats!

Fishnhunt

Awesome deer!  Thanks for sharing the story too!

Thanks to you Jason! I am still amazed at how fast that arrow zipped through my buck, even at 20+ yards. Pushing a 520 grain arrow with a 46# Kanati is no big deal and the trajectory is surprisingly flat. What a great little bow!
