nice buck - and good one you for sticking with it. When they are wounded like that they need time...that's it. A friend shot an elk in Canmore once and same thing...didn't wait and he pushed him from his bed......took us four days of tracking...fifth day we were out of time.

He was huge and he went up a mountain of dead fall. His original bed was FULLL of blood...he was going nowhere. Buddy was so excited though he would try to get another arrow in him. The elk saw him and that's the last we saw of him.

I still am haunted. Rolling stones used to sing.

"tiiiiiiiiime is on our side" - but we need to use it wisely.

Congrats and I think you learned lots on this trip and now you can pass the lesson on.

Thanks Jerry
Yes , a lot of lessons learned ,  the hard way , but with a happy ending, It is a lot tougher for it to happen on an elk because of all the time and expenses involved in it, but it is not a good thing to leave a wounded animal , not even one that will have died.

I still have a cold and a coughing that doesn't stop , my wife says the deer will hear my coughing for a mile, but time is running out, and the bucks are fighing and breaking so , hopefully persistence will pay itself and I can redeem myself with a better shot

Mike we will soon be hunting some javies together, they are very tough and I believe that a bad shot on a javai, makes it a very difficult recovery, they really are made for the bow
