I am thinking about getting one and I am wondering how much it cost to operate. The cost of replacing the butane and Repellent each trip.

The manufacture's estimates are pretty close in that the butane last about 10 or 12 hours and the pads last 3 or 4. That being said, I am always changing out the pads before hitting the woods even if they are not completely used up as s I don't want to have to fiddle with it while sitting on the stand.Same with the butane. if its down around 1/4 full I'll change it out before hitting the woods.So I end up with a bunch of half used pads and a bunch of butane cartrigdes with just a couple of hours left in them.
I buy the summer pack straight from the company and its cheaper that way. Still not cheap but worth every dime I spend for it down here in the swamps of south Florida.

swampdrummer is correct, the manufacturers specs are pretty close.  I don't change mine until they're used up though, they're not a whole lot of work to change them if you can get away with the extra movement.  I would highly reccommend buying one, if you do get one I would also suggest getting the holster for $10 more.

They are a great investment. My wife also uses new pads and butane cartridges about each time she goes out hunting. When she does her gardening or berry picking she uses up the partially used items. They do not go to waste and Thermacells make Spring and early season hunting a joy....hard to put a price on that!

For the butane cartridges, go to the beauty section and get the Conair brand. They are the exact same thing just about 1/2 the price.

As to the original question, they are one of the most worthwhile purchases you'll ever make. Not sure how I used to hunt here in Florida without one, but I can say it was miserable in comparison.  My hunts are usually 4 to 5 hours.  I use a new pad every time and a butane lasts 2 hunts...works out well.

I agree with purchasing the holster. I wear mine all summer while I hunt groundhogs. Don't really need it when deer hunting starts in Oct. We get our first frost about that time.

I have several pads in my holster. I only have 1 extra butane canister. You can also cut the pads in half and flip them over if you want extended life. One things for sure, hard to hunt in the south without a thermacell.

I like the pads that smell like dirt.

A singe refill, that consists of on butane cartridge and three pads will last 8-10 hours of continuous use for me.

You can buy the pads seperate from the manufacturer. Just give them a call.

lemme tell ya - i don't care WHAT it costs to run a thermacell, i'd never ever hunt skeeter country without one .... EVER!

I picked up about a dozen refill packs at seasons end a few yearrs ago and I still haven't used them up. Think I paid about $3 apeice for them. They are worth every penny. Interesting idea to cut pads in half.

My Thermocell works great. But, mine makes a hissing noise when its on and Im afraid that the deer can hear it. Especially if Im in my pop up. Also the clicking noise it makes to start is loud. Has anyone had problems with the noise? I wish it was quieter. Just my 2 cents worth.
