I wasn't going to hunt anymore this year as my freezers are full and I donated 2 deer. But last friday my new Black Swan arrived from Arvid. It was shooting so good and I had a tag in my pocket so tonight I threw the lone wolf on my back and carried the swan into the woods. We finally got some rain so it was quiet and I took the chance of setting up right on the edge of a bedding area that had a couple oaks with some residual acorns. I settled in at 3:20 and at 4:36 I saw movement in the nasty tangle in front of me. A doe and a doe fawn slowly worked their way along the creek out onto the flat in front of me. I decided to take the young one at that point and leave the breeder. The big doe was 18 yards with her head behind a tree and the young one was 7 yards I knew my chance was now. I leaned over felt my index finger hit my anchor and the arrow hit right where I was looking. She sprinted off and as she entered the tangle all went silent I knew she was down right there. I could see the crimson trail easily from my 18 ft. perch.

A harvest on the first hunt with a new bow, but it is not the best part of the story.

I went to the check station and a woman was there at the counter she said she would love to have a deer. Her husband just went on disability and she works for minimum wage. I told the woman she could have it and I dropped it off at the processors for her. She was so thankful to get that little doe it  brought tears to her eyes. This little doe is my biggest trophy for the year, much more so than my P&Y buck.
