One of my spots to deer hunt was going pretty good seeing deer most times out but ever sence the turkey's started roosting in the trees in my area I havent seen many deer. They are extreemly noisey and bug the crap out of me. So do you think the turkeys effect the deer and keep them away from the roosting areas?
I've been thinking about taking the shot gun out there and wait until they start to fly up and just blast off a couple of rounds to get them to relocate. Any advice

Be careful that might land you a heavy fine if you cross the wrong game warden! Just wait until they come to roost and run at them just as they are getting ready to fly up. That should scatter them enough. I dont think they are bothering the deer though. We always see them in the same areas here, sometimes together. Never seemed to be an issue

Yes, I feel they screw it up.I had the same problem and then I shot one and that was that.Looks like you will have fresh turkey for thanksgiving this year.ENJOY THE BIRD ON THE 26TH

with the warm day temps and gun season open the deer have gone nocturnal...if anything the deer are fine around the turkeys as it's a another set of eyes, even roosted the turkeys are alert and will spook.

more incentive to buy a fall turkey permit for ya next year...

I don't think the turkeys bother the deer at all.

I think deer and turkeys cohabitate quite well.  I've seen him in the same areas where I hunt deer with no ill effects.  They are a nice benefit to have around in the spring also when the hunting season opens up for them.

I see deer and turkeys together quite abit, sometimes if I remember I take a turkey call along, If I move wrong I use the turkey call and fool the deer into thinking I,m a clumsy turkey.

Just keep hunting and enjoy the birds!  Deer don't care about turkeys on my place....see them near/around each other quite a bit.

I've seen deer and turkey feeding together from my stand, but when the first turkey flapped away to roost those deer scattered like a gun had gone off!

Turkeys don't bother deer. Now human pressure will sure change the deer woods.

whitebuffalo

Have you guy's ever been on stand at a roost? 1 to 1 1/2 hrs before dark they are very noisey making quite the rucus.  I've been around deer and turkey together on several occasion,I know they are around each other thru out the day but at roost times I just have observed a change ever since they showed up.

I don't like turkeys around but not because they bother the deer: it's 'cause you can't twitch without them seeing you and alerting. Deer pay attention to turkeys and when the turkeys start putting the deer vamoose. I've been busted a couple of times by them with deer in the area. The deer may blow and go, but for sure they will go.
