I write songs, but have never been a very good poet.  You would think the two would go hand in hand, but I guess not.  Still, I wrote this one in a treestand recently about our whitetail.

The whitetail has given me meaning in life
He has shown me that despite what modern man thinks,
nature is still king
He is a gift from God to people like me
People who wonder if they were born too late
People who have a different defition of the word "success".
The whitetail has taught me to be attentive
Even when he is not in sight, God's hand can be seen everywhere in his world
The whitetail has helped me mature
It's almost as if they were looking after me,
while I try to look after them
I am a predator, and the whitetail is prey
I need him and he needs me
When given the opportunity to take his life,
I do not feel remorse
I know it is right
The look in his eye seems to convey understanding
Whitetails have always been important to man
As we move forward, I pray they will continue to be

Dude, that is very deep! I could have never come up with that, but that is exactly how I feel. Thanks for sharing.
God is good, all the time!!!

Its not the size of the animal you hunt that matters. Its how you hunt the animal.

"The whitetail has made me mature it's almost as if they were looking after me"

I really like that part I'm only 16 and that quote really stands out to me.

Excellent!

I`m sure those words will get a nod from many of those who read them.

Thanks  :D

The line about wondering if you were born too late is very neat. I felt like a experienced what you were saying, not just reading words. Nice job

Cool Jon, nice words!  Now you've piqued my interests...lets hear some lyrics, too!

Good songs ARE good poetry.  And both subject to individual approval.  You get ours.
