I am thinking about buying a Dalaa recurve, because I like its features, and frankly it's just time to buy a new toy.  I have been hunting for the last 20 years with a Bighorn takedown, 66# @ 29 inches. It has performed well for me, but it's time for a new bow and I want to drop a few pounds in draw weight.

My dilemma is this.  The Dalaa (DAS) has a reputation, with its carbon limbs, of shooting light arrows very fast.  In fact, I think that there was some discussion on this forum about  the Dalaa and the advantages of its ILF limbs.   I don't shoot light arrows, however, and currently shoot an "Ashby" arrow of around 660 grains with a EFOC of 22%.  Does anyone have any experience with how efficiently the Dalaa will shoot heavier arrows? (Or for that matter does anyone have any insight about whether this is even a reasonable question?)

I got to thinking about this recently when a custom recurve builder told me that, for heavier arrows, he would build takedown limbs differently, using thicker or additional wood laminations.

The Dalaa has excellent efficiency with heavy arrows. The thing with the Dalaa is that it can shoot arrow weights down to 6 gpp, while most wood bows are only warrantied to 8 gpp. That's the reason for the light arrow discussion.
The bow will perform very well with any weight arrow you decide to use with it.

If you decide to go with the Dalaa and want to use ILF limbs you should get the modl that accepts ILF limbs. One model does not.Also be aware that the Dalaa does not have limb alignment feature like the Titan has.May or may not be a problem. (was for me. I ordered the 21" ILF riser from Three Rivers and the Limbs that i have wiuld not line up with the center of the riser. I was out shipping both ways when i returned the riser.Dale at three rivers said that there was nothing wrong with the riser and would not reimburse my shipping.

Funny thing is the limbs lined up perefectly with my two Bernardini Risers without having to use there alignment adjustnments. Go figure.

The Dalaa, and any other bow that uses ILF limbs, will perform on as good as the limbs you use on it. The standard Dalaa limbs are great limbs but there are other higher end limbs that will offer even better performance than  the standard limb. In any event, I am sure you will not be disappointed with the Dalaa and probably will find that it outshoots your old Bighorn. My DAS likes any arrow I shoot from it...but again, the better the limb the better the performance. That is one of the beauties of the bow, you can upgrade it any time you want or put on some clunker limbs for things like bowfishing.

I have owned 5 of them and every one has had perfect alignment.
For the record, I think the DAS limb system is superior to the ILF for hunting. It's quieter, allows greater adjustment, and more solid. It only takes a bit to change out the bushings.

My Dalaa/DAS performs well with all arrows I have shot from it. There have been no limb alignment problems using multiple sets of limbs from different makers. They are great for short draw shooters like myself as one can dial in a lot of preload. My only problem has been the grip but that was solved with some hatchet work.

I've owned 8 Das/Dalaa's - limb alignment has been perfect with each.  I also own a Cybow riser - every bit the quality of the better known brands - superior to some. Size and/or popularity of a manufacturer does not guarentee superior quality when comparing the two. As with any, there should be a difference when comparing mid level to top of the line.

Actually the Titan is $150 more if you go with the BF Extreme limbs.

I've never had a problem with limb alignment on the Dalaa.

The Dalaa is also film dipped limbs and riser. The wood core limbs on the Dalaa are much better than the ones that come with Titan in my experience also. Both are good bows, buy the bow that suits your needs better. I've owned several of both and both will do the job.

Thank all of you for replying and helping me get a grip on the factors involved in this purchase.  I knew that some Dalaa riser models are not a true ILF design, but could be modified to accept the wide variety of ILF limbs available.  I have a lot to learn in this subject area, still being stuck in an older, non-ILF mind set.

One more question: Lenny mentioned Black Max limbs, which I "Googled" but could not find there's a lot of other Black Max carbon stuff, tennis raquets for example).  Any suggestions about who the manufacturer is?
