Well guys, he's finally pulling the trigger on a dream he's had for awhile. My son graduated from college in May, and still hasn't been able to land a job. (This is obviously a BAD time to be job hunting for anyone). Anyway, he and a friend are leaving this Sunday to become residents of Fort Collins. They were there last October and loved it, so with nothing keeping them here, they're making the move.
Take good care of my favorite hunting partner, and I'm sure His Mom and I will be out to see him in the not too distant future.
If you happen across a lefty that's shooting a Black Widow (his graduation gift),if you don't mind, say hello and welcome him to his new home. He's really looking forward to the change of venue. I can't say that I blame him.
  Thanks guys!

That area has a nice economy and plenty to do outdoors. He will be fine. Get ready for a new vacation pad with your eye on bowhunting. Time for the kid to show you around secret spots. =0)

WE are in western Coloreado, home of Colorado Traditional Archery's Society, High country shoot in June---350+ trad shooters.   WELCOME   Dick

knobby

Thanks to all. The High Country Shoot sounds interesting, and Matt, I'm sure you two will run into each other.

The best way for him to meet others in  the trad  community is to go the the Colorado Traditional Archers Society (CTAS) banquet which will be Feb 19-20 in Golden.  Fred Eichler will be the speaker.  There is a pheasant hunt on Friday.  Jim

A lot of good breweries there. I think he'll be happy  ;)

knobby

TxAg, That's funny,'cause he HAS mentioned the breweries, both as a "point of interest" and as a potential employer. They left here about a half hour ago, so the journey has begun.

Awesome town, Awesome group of bowhunters. I lived there for six years and shot all the time with fellow tradganger Ryan Steadman. I really miss those days. There are good shoots all the time in Colorado and Wyoming. Good luck!

knobby

Shane, my wife and I passed through Ft. Collins this summer, so I got to use the archery range. Everyone there was helpful, and I spent some time shooting the breeze with a few of the local traditional archers. He'll be in good company, and should have some people he can go to for information and suggestions. It amazes me that a community can have an archery range on land owned by the city, while here at home (population 8000), it's illegal for me to even be shooting arrows in my basement! It's considered "discharging a firearm within the city limits". Anyway, my son loves the outdoors and can't wait to begin his new life out there. Plus, I now know where some of my vacation time will be spent. He's already trying to talk me into coming out for an elk hunt in the Nat'l Forest west of town. Any idea how the elk hunting is in that part of the State?

You still got my number Gary? Tell him to hit me up. If he needs anything I am not far away.

The Big Thompson Bowhunters Club in Loveland (just south of Ft. Collins) has a lot of traditional archers.  Their 3-D shoots are less competitive than most but lots of fun, esp. for the stick bow shooters.  The shoots start in January and they put on a big game feast Jan. 9.  Might be a good way to meet other traditional archers.  Welcome to the neighborhood.

knobby

Randy, Good to hear from you. I figured once you got done wrapping meat that you'd be back on this site. Congrats on another nice season. Hopefully my son and I can get some hunting time together like you and your Dad share. I'll get him your name and number.
Doug, I'll let him know about the Big Thompson Club. I know where Big Thompson is, as we went through there this past August. Gorgeous area. Where's the club located? My son,Jordan, was in Estes Park last October when the elk were in town. He was very impressed, to say the least.
With all the help being offered here by my fellow members, I'm feeling better about this move already. Now if only his Mom felt better...

Doug Treat

The Big Thompson Bowhunters have a range @ Lon Hagler Resevoir south/west of Loveland.  Bunch of nice guys there (and a few gals too).  Lots of elk here in Estes Park, but kinda difficult to find a place to hunt them close to town during the archery season.

I got a call earlier that the "wagon train' was finally calling it a day after 15 1/2 hours on the road. That got them from eastern Wisconsin to Sidney, Nebraska. Tomorrow morning they'll head for Cheyenne, then down 25 to the Fort, with a monumental unpacking job once they get there. Then, on with the "real job" search.
