Hey everyone,
I finally decided that I just couldn't decide between a highly D/R and a mild D/R longbow that forms a "D" when strung, so I'm going to get one of both then keep the one I prefer     I've decide on the high D/R bow, now I'm narrowing it down for the "D" bow.
I'm looking mainly at the Northern Mist Superior and Mohawk longbows, both in 66", 65#@30".  I want something that has great speed for this design, draws very smoothly, and is very quiet.
I'd like to hear opinions on both or either, but mainly from people who have shot both. What were the difference between the bows in terms of overall performance (speed, smoothness of draw, inherent accuracy, etc.) and which do you prefer and why?

i've shot both bows, extensively.

either bow will get the job done.

imo, both bows are built with careful crafstmanship, top shelf materials and finishing.  aside from price, the difference is in the design.

how ANY bow will feel and shoot for you can only be assessed by you, not me, nor anyone else.  so, if i tell you that the mohawk fits my hand best, and it feels better on the draw and release, and has sufficient speed for me ... well, that's me talking.

trad bows aren't rocket science.  but they're all just different, even the same model from the same bowyer.  

once yer past the design, craftsmanship, materials, build and finishing, there's not much else to say since the final verdict must come from ....... YOU (not me or anyone else, right?)

Thanks for the input. I'm mainly just looking for opinions so I can decide which one to try in the immediate future. It's tough to find bows to try out, especially since I'm a lefty. It seems like the best thing I can do is get all the input I can, then make an educated decision. I know that neither one will better for everybody, but I can sometimes get a better idea of which might work best for myself from hearing others' perceptions.

craig, my point is that both bows you specify are worthy in terms of the quantifiable values (build, materials, etc), but yer NEVER gonna really know if a stickbow will work for you unless you spend some time with it shooting.  

if it was just words alone that would make a bow a 'keeper', there'd be no need for the trad bow classifieds.  :D

subjective opinions of others is just that, and that's just the way it is.

If I was looking for a D-shaped bow with all of the qualities you have listed I would look no farther than a Mohawk.  Vince is one of the nicest guys I have ever dealt with and that goes a long way for me.  I will say that you could pick up 10 mohawks , or any other bow, with the exact same specs and one would stick out.  When you find it the bow will pick you.  All of this boils down to feel and is personal.  I always like to hear peoples opinions as well.  Rob gives good advice though.  I wish you luck in your quest for the grail.  

And Steve Turay of Northern Mist is a heck of a nice fellow and also makes a superbly crafted bow.

I have had both and for my money the Northern Mist is the finer finished bow hands down. But they both make very nice bows.

never shot a northern mist but hear they are good bows.have two mohawks and one shoots better than the other.i attribute that to one having all boo limbs so its smoother and faster than the other.every bow is different like every person is.gonna have to buy one of each and keep the one you like the most.  :D

PSSST! I would call Steve and ask him to make you a bow with his new GREEN glass. He should have it in about 3-4 weeks. That would make a great bow even cooler.

Well I went for it. Just got off the phone with Steve at NM and ordered a Superior! Left handed, 66", 65#@30", American elm limbs with mahogany stain, and Bolivian Rosewood riser and overlays! Now for the 2-3 months wait....

Arrow4Christ, do not forget to post pictures when it arrives. I have nevershot a Mowhawk but have shot several Northern Mists and I liked them all. Congrats on making the choice. Flint
