Was out last Friday and the warmth and the wind set me to wandering in the woods. So, I'd sneak from tree to tree watching for a deer and then, there it was...just off to the right in a draw...

A grove of straight osage orange trees...a couple in the 5-6 inch diameter range. JACKPOT  :bigsmyl:

It is too easy for a bowyer to get distracted in the woods.  :D

Now that's a hunt to remember.  8^).

Same thing happened to me, only I found Hophornbeam and Hickory.
In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

I also look for the nice straight trunk while I'm out Paul. I've yet to build a shootable bow but I still look for wood.

Hope You get some nice staves.

Heck i was stalking a nice buck one evening and doing well having closed the distance to 40 yds and set up with him feeding towards me.  Then off too my right about 20 yds was the prettiest osage tree you've ever seen.  I ended up spooking the buck while walking over to look at the tree.

Sometimes being a bowyer really gets in the way of being a hunter.  LOL
