For some of us who haven't brought home any venison, for one reason or another, I thought it would be good to have some back-up excuses for that universal question: "Ya' get yur' deer?"

Ahhhhhh No.....But....

I only got to hunt during the waning mooon.

I only got to hunt during the full moon.

I couldn't get the "new" smell off of my rubber scentless boots.

I only got to hunt between the full moon and the waning moon.

My arrow shelf got wet.

My arrow shelf was too dry and stiff.

My nocks were too tight.

My nocks were too loose.

There was an approaching front.

There was a waning front.

There was excessive, magnetic pull from the alignment of the planets....just as he stepped into my shooting lane.

I couldn't find my truck keys during peak rut.

The garage caught on fire. Deer seldom move when your garage is on fire.

I could only hunt during waning interest.

In the beginner's mind there are many possibilities. In the expert's there are few...So the most difficult thing is always to keep your beginner's mind...This is also the real secret of the arts: always be a beginner.  Shunryu Suzuki

I tell the wife I was daydreaming about the quality time we spend together and when i saw the deer he was out of range...LOL

How do you hunt the Oct. Lull? (One of my favorites)

I went to draw back and the bow limb caught my safety harness...just then the bottom fell out of my climber...i was hanging by my straps and had to cut my self down, but couldnt because my broadhead was a mechanical... then I noticed the deer was a really big buck...and my brass inserts fell out... but it doesnt really matter, because my nocking point was too low, my carbon arrows are too stiff and my bow is too long.... I still managed to pull a shot off and miss just by a hair....oh yea! i must of forgot to pick a spot.

You're so right George this has been some year. Seems every time I got ready to go out it would start waning. Probably the waniest year I've seen in a long time.

I don't need excuses, though. My arrows always go where I aim them... apparently I don't always aim at the deer.
