Have any of you folks gone to shooting just carbons and then gone back to Woodies because ya miss making and shooting them?

I just made the swith a month ago. I had never made woodies before and it is just plain fun! You can't replace the smell!

I've never really shot woods all that much except for when I first got into trad a friend gave me some to practice with.  Now I'm working on perfecting the skill of making them, and once I do that I'll be shooting them a lot more if not full time.  It just feels right...

I've been shooting woods since '58. About 3-4 years ago I bought 20 dz. carbons and 20 dz. aluminums but haven't made any up yet. Hap

Hey Hot Hap you should sell all those carbons and aluminums. Do you know how many raw shafts you could buy or trade for. They have to much character to toss in the wood shed now if only I could find cheaper shafts I would be set.

I have never shot aluminums or carbons religiously only a few here and there. I have to agree I love making wood arrows, and (in my opinion) it is the best feeling to take an animal with a wood arrow you crafted.

It took me a long time to try carbons.  I used them last year and they were outstanding without problems save for one, they are not wood.  I parked the carbons this year to go back to wood as I feel the carbon arrows shorted me out of a large part of my traditional archery experience, which is the joy of crafting and hunting with wood arrows.

tried carbons outta my longbows for the first time this year . they shot great and were very consistant etc . did i like them ? i guess the results were impressive .
what am i shooting now ? ... i've gone back to tapered cedars and douglas fir . i just prefer them .
same reason i like and prefer shooting Hill style longbows . for me they are just a natural extension of my archery experience whilst hunting with longbows .
i do shoot alloys and carbons out of my ILF recurves .. but , for now at least , woodies from my longbows .

I just fought this battle with myself over the last week,  just completed a new self bow and I wanted to have a set of arrows in hand to shoot as soon as possible.  Of course you can only find carbons and aluminums at the local sporting goods stores and I just couldnt bring myself to buy them, or shoot them from a self bow.  It just somehow seems so un-natural.  Ordering a dozen hickory arrows tomorrow and will probably follow that order up with a dozen hickory shafts to try my hand at crafting my own arrows after that.

I started with wood when I was 10 with my red Ben Pearson Jet Bow could get arrows at the hardware store for like 2 dollars,grew up got a wheelie bow and got carbon arrows grew up again bought a longbow made of wood and bought wood arrows and will be buried in a wood casket. And will always have wood.

I have never shot carbons, but have used a lot of aluminum. However, since the late 90's have shot wood almost exclusively. I am not artistic at making up the woodies but have produced functional arrows. Like they say, they are fun and the cedar shafts sure do smell good.
