Anyone tried the screw-in VPA Terminator?

Just wondering if anyone has tried the new VPA Terminator screw-in models in either 200 grain or 250 grain and what were your thoughts?  These look like a Wenzel Woodsman, just hope they are tougher than the Woodsman's as I was extremely disappointed with durability!  Also are they sharp out of the package and if not how easy are they to sharpen?  Does the long tip hold up well or is it prone to bending when hitting bone?

I shoot the 250 grains and really like them.  They are wider than the Woodmans I have, spin true, and sharpen out of the package to a hunting edge in a matter of seconds.  A few light strokes on my little DMT diamond hone (credit card size) and they go in my quiver.  They are precision built and SOLID.

Currently hunting with the 250gr x 1.25" Terminator. No shots taken. I am very impressed with the tight tolerances, detail and simplicity of this head. It flies great (but so does every other broadhead) and is totally silent. With 5" standard profile shield feathers, my Bemans are dead quiet in flight.

I have 200 gr screw in heads. These heads came to hair popping sharp with a few strokes on diamond hone as stated above and got to that point easier than any I have ever used. I had a shot go into an oak tree and tip or blades never curled , however the threaded part did bend which is understandable. I am impressed with the head for sure.

3 Whitetail so far, 2 with the same 250 x 1 1/8" broadhead with 50gr. Brass insert 300 gr..They are everything I have ever wanted out of a BH. Also the toughest BH I have ever tested. Easy to sharpen, spins perfect. If you shoot a 3 blade this is a no brainer. New stuff coming in 2010..

I spoke with the owner of VPA today and he has beefed up the screw in heads through the threaded portion and they will be ready within a few weeks. He also said to send the head that bent back and he will replace it and I was willing to pay for it but he said no. It really doesnt get any better, like Bob said everything I want in a broadhead.

Shot a buck at 15yds with my 51@28 Centaur Chimera and a 29" GT 35/55 Traditional and a 175gr VPA Terminator I got from Bill Dunn at Zipper Bows. The arrow blew clean through both lungs and buried the whole broadhead and 2" of shaft in the dirt. The blood trail was awesome even though it was only 30yds long. The VPA is very easy to get very sharp which is very important to me. I know you were asking about the 200 or 250's but the 175 appears to be almost identical.

Thanks guys!  Anyone know if they will make a 225 grain VPA Terminator?

flyfish   can you advise me on what diamond hone you use.  I can get them really sharp, but not quite shaving.   I have not yet shot anything with these heads

Hi Chuck, My diamond hone is the red DMT which I believe is the fine stone. Little pressure is needed just a fair amount to start and get incresingly lighter as you go and they will make you bald. They sharpen easier than anything I have tried yet. Let me know if you need more help. I think any flat diamond hone will work as well I just wouldnt use too coarse of one as I believe they come with a pretty fair edge already started.

My Buddy John Bookhart killed a deer today with one. He shoots a 45 lb longbow and blew through the shoulder on one side and came out the other side. Deer ran about 50 yards with a painted blood trail.RC

Tougher than the 300 extreme Bob? What new stuff...a 300gr screw in perhaps?

Gonna build some wood arrows and would like to know the best way to attach the glue on version without slicing off my fingers? Any suggestions appreciated.

Flyfish   wow,  they are all three shaving now.  Thanks.  It was actually pretty easy that way.  I used the red grit diamong sharpener, then a ceramic rod, then a few backwards draws on a piece of leather belt.

I like these heads.  Built well, fly well,  now   if I ever see a deer !
