I'm setting up some mock scrapes on my hunting land. It might be a little early in bama but it's kind of a expirament... Have any of you guys tried this method? I read up on this so I'll see what you guys think....

3-4 mock scrapes in a small acre sized area
using 2 different buck urine products to simulate variaty
(trails end 507 possibly and just buck urine on others)
making a mock rub to accompany  scrapes
(do you put anything on the licking branch?)
using drippers on a few of the scrapes

I have heard that more than one scrape increases the frequency of bucks in the area and drippers help time daylight activity. Also even if they only use it nocturnally then they might start using food soursces or trails in the area.

Does anyone have any tips to using mock scrapes?
I have never used them before and want to try and get it right  for the best effect...

Thanks
I'm going to follow with pictures of setups and resulting trail cam photos.

Check out James Valley Scents. I have used them with great success. He has instructions on mock scrapes and set-ups with his scents.

I have had great success making mock rubs... I've had bucks tear up ridges where I started to make my own mock rub lines..

I have used Buck Fever Synthetic scents with great results on the mock rubs with the forehead scent. I have tried making mock scrapes but don't usually get much response.  I think this is mostly due to a lack of competion for the does.

I'm going to try several products from local stores... Are there any to avoid?

Just don't try them all on the same scrapes.if one doesn't seem to be working wait till it rains real good and the switch. Also u can add doe urine to a scrape for they as well use them on occasion but urine recovered from a local deer is the best.If you find a fresh road kill cut the hock pad's off to use on a drag line. And use a syringe or basting needle to get the urine and freeze it.Hang the hock pads from a branch when you get to your stand.

My good friend Rob Gillow is an avid user of mock scrapes. This is a good how to video.    :readit:

I use whatever is cheapest out of the dripper, then make sure I drink lots of water and apple juice before I go out to set-up.   :bigsmyl:

I've used just about all the store bought scents, regular household ammonia from the dollar store, even my own urine. And have had good success with all of it. The only thing that did not work, was VS-1. That stuff was $50 for one ounce bottle, it's still in the refrigerator. Good luck. Jim

I have had some luck with James Vally, never noting negative so far from it. They either came in or just did not pay any attention to it.

Hey Jim, it won't work in the refrigerator! I have had good success with VS-1. In fact, this morning I had a small buck working into my scent set-up with VS-1 when my doe bleat can inadvertently sounded and he backed out. I would rather get rid of my bleat can then my VS-1.
