I finished these yesterday. These shafts are so straight and when stained look great. Sure glad I found out about Surewoods!

I really like the way the grain looks when you stain it with a dark stain. Gives it some character.

I stain mine dark as well, then apply Danish oil.  The oil removes the excess stain causing the grain to really "pop" out.

then sure is purty ! I just stained a dozen POC's charcoal color and cap sprayed metallic red. I think they are going to be purty enough to post on here. Thanks for all the help and pointers you have given me ! Where should I buy a dozen surewoods, been wanting to try doug fir ? I have tried sitka spruce and remember how well they took stain too.

My Surewood shafts are just as heavy, just as straight, stain just as well, but Snag's are much more purtier than mine:-)!  Nice arrows!  You can't beat that Doug Fir.

Never heard of Surewood shafts. How do they shoot and perform compared to POC?

They shoot great, they are heavier than POC, but are straight grained.  I have some that are @ 5 years old now and they are still straight.  They have had a lot of use also.  If you need a heavier shaft you should get some of these.

When making arrows it is always better to spend a little extra to get good shafts. With all the work that they take it seems stupid to buy poor shafts. But maybe that is just me. I would rather have an ugly straight arrow than a pretty crooked one. Or you could just get straight shafts to start with and spend some time like you did and have the best of everything. Gary

My experience has been they are heavier than Port Orford Cedar, and are really tough.  At my draw length my "standard" arrows made of POC would weigh 425-450 grains or so.  My Doug Fir Surewood arrows usually weight 520 grains, give or take a bit. (29" back of point, 3 5" shield feathers, 125 head)  

The biggest thing I like is they are tough.  I don't like to put time into making something and having it break easily.  They seen to recover and fly just as well as POC.  

In the interest of full disclosure, I have used POC, Sitka Spruce, Doug Fir, Aluminum and Carbon to make arrows.  I use Surewood Shafts almost exclusively now.

I agree Ron! Tough, straight, good weight...and I love shooting them!  They are my "go to" shaft. I have hunted with them exclusively this year for elk/deer.  Unfortunately I don't have any pictures to show...haven't put them through an animal YET! lol

Ok, where can a guy get a dozen of these bad boys? Any of our Sponsors have them?
