Sorry ladies and gents...but a guys gotta hunt when he can!

Yesterday, my main goal in the morning was to shoot the first doe,or nice buck of course, that walked by so Cade could track it for me before his soccer game....

This weekend was supposed to be a total bust as far as the weather, we were in the grasp of a Nor'easter. But yesterday dawned a beautiful day for hunting.  Colder than about any other opener that I can remember, over cast, and fairly staedy wind out of the north.  Life was good!

An hour after getting into the stand before daylight, I look to my left and out of the thicket comes a big ol' horse headed doe. She's coming right on the trail that will bring her about 5yds. from the Loc-on I was in...perfect!

To be honest I was already thinking...."wow, nice and early, I'll have to call home as soon as I shoot this doe and have Cade get ready to track"....Big Mistake!   I had her all but fried up already....

I set my feet, turn my body to get ready to shoot as she closed in...about five yards.....walking by....piece of cake....draw/release....hair flies off her back....."what a rookie"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Man I should know better by now to take any shot for granted...needless to say I was very disappointed in myself, I really wanted to get Cade out on a good blood trail      :knothead:

Now I was determined to redeem myself for the morning miss.I knew cade wasn't going to be available to track as he a b-day party. So I hit a spot that's a little tougher to get to, but loaded with acorns. A spot in the years that the oaks are empty, you won't see very many deer at all. But when the oaks are heavy with acorns, there's an amazing amount of buck sign, and the deer are very huntable.

I was apparently a little too late getting in as I ran smack dab into a doe hoovering up acorns as soon as I hit the woods. She went off and went in about 100 more yards and set-up according to the wind. By about 4:00 I was set and ready to go in my old Lone Wolf climber.

Within a half hour I was starting to see deer off in the distance, but nothing close. But I knew(hoped) from past hunts in this area, that  some deer would be heading toward me soon.....

Finally I catch a tail flicker and see a little spike headed right at me.  As you'll see, he passed right by at about 10yds......

He passed without a clue, that gave me confidence that I'd picked the right tree/wind combo. Now I just needed a bigger buck.....

Is the video working?  Because I'm having all kinds of issues with Photobucket. That video loaded(but won't play for me) but I can't get the others to do so...and they're good one's!
