Well tomorrow morning early Jason and I head for Gil's place to hopefully help with his overpopulation problem on deer and hogs.
Rusty will be joining us after work tomorrow evening.

Our track record is not great but I did manage to take a doe last year so hopes are high.

Jason and I will be Ghillie hunting in the trees and on the ground.  Rusty will be wandering around following the little animals.  We'll see who gets what first.  LOL

This always a great hunt and going to even better with Jason rejoining us this year.

We'll keep ya posted.

Good luck and be safe. You using home made Ghillies? Say hi to Rusty for me.

Jason has a Cabelas light weight Ghillie and I built one from a kit this year.  His is jacket and pants, mine a poncho with arms style.

I can hardly wait for the adventure to unfold. Hunting with trashwood has to be a hoot. As the funnest stuff seems to happen, with him in the field      :campfire:

Trashwood knows what it means to "root hawg or die!"..hahaha Us old folks like being sneaky.
Good hunting and God bless.

Archery isn't something I do, it's who I am!
The road to "Sherwood" makes for an awesome journey.

Well we are packed up and ready to pull out in the am.  Gotta stop and get a tank of propane but should arrive at Gil's before noon.  The plan is to go check the places we know the deer too travel and set a stand or two.  Also might popup a DB or two for a little hidey hole hunter I know.

WE are back, gotta down load the pics.

Hmmm, a ghillie dress might be an accurate description.  Gil has done a couple of "drag queen" contest benefits and asked if he could borrow it.  LOL

Dinner time now, stories later.

Ooooooo moose stew on a cold night (well cold by Texas standards) was so good.

You could not ask for a pretty week end to hunt.  Weather was wonderful. The deer improvement Gil is working on is indeed working.  I saw the nicest buck I have ever been close enough for a shot.  I didn't mind passing at all becuase I can't wait to see what is gonna be like over the next few yrs.  This was the first time I had really been involved with taking required measurements on a deer.  the data also required the jaw lower jaw bone.  actually that was the frist time I had taken the jaw bone out.  Easiest way was using a big pair of branch cutters.  Jaw bones are designed to stay put.  :)

If you are one of the bowhunters that shoot at the heart to hit the heart, ya must not live in center or nothern Texas.  at 20 yds a good Texas doe hears the shot no matter how quite your bows is.  she can pick the arrow flight before the arrow gets there.  Let me assure you she is moving  :) .

story to follow.  that dnag Wingnut is on a roll.  I think this is the 4th or 5th one in a row.

I am glad that "Too Short" does not live in Texas.  Texas hunters find the ATV very useful (he did not like ATV's....alot).  it is not that they hunt from them or mis-use then regarding other hunters in the area.  Infact they ATV users are repectful of other stand hunters and their location. They use them for moving stand, loading feeders, hauling deer back to the icebox.  Since most of the hunting in Texas is done on a farm or ranch, the older I get the more useful they seem to be.    :)    If you are a weekend hunter, I think you can get a lot more hunting in with the help of an ATV.

The are a good tool if used with respect to the game and your fellow hunter (IMO)
