Great day Saturday!  First ever w/ stuff that I made.  Pignut hickory bow that I used last year.  Bow took some set over the year of LOTS of shooting.  After buying TBB4 and reading about tempering... I heat treated the bow... shortened it a few inches... and sinew backed the tips (too thin due to shortening).  Arrows were cane taken off a creek just a few hundred yards from where I got the deer.  Put a chicken snake on the back.
I was in a tree... and shot the deer at about 5 steps away... quartering away hard.  He jumped, paused, and then trotted about 40 yards.  I saw my arrow sticking in the back... looked like it only had a couple of inches of penetration... jaw dropped... i was SICK!!!  Well, the deer stopped, took one step... and fell over... D-E-A-D.  I couldn't believe it!!  Turns out the arrow had gone down and took out both lungs... it just backed out when he started running.
Anyway... I started hunting w/ homemade stuff last year.  This is a fun ride... thanks to all the guys on here who have helped, and are helping, us new guys!!

Congratulations!!
You will never forget your first with a self-made bow.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Man, now that's a story! Wow!
I really respect that victory. Really good job!

Feels good dont it?  Were you shooting stone heads with that setup or regular broadheads on foreshatfs for the cane?
Luck has nothing to do with it, just Boot leather and a GWP.

I had a reliable trusted friend tell me he once shot a deer and it honest to goodness looked like it only got a couple inches of pentration and after a few jumps it fell out. Unsure of the hit he and his buddy left it for awhile only to go back a few hours later and find a incredible blood trail and the buck dead just out of sight. The arrow had went through and poked a hole out the bottom and must have came back out as fast as it went in! I wouldn't  haven't believed it if  anybody else  had told me this story but this guy is a stand up guy. Now your story is similar. I've never  wittnessed anything like that before with lots of bow kills under my belt.

Thanks a bunch.  Anaconda... not gone so far as the stone heads yet... but definitely hoping someday!  Those were big Snuffers...they definitely do a good job.  Romans 3... look me up anytime you come back to Tyler!!

Congrats hickry.    :clapper:   I hope to post a story like yours one of these days.  Killing a deer with gear you have made with your own two hands is something I really want to do myself and seeing your post just gets me even more worked up!
