Im just starting out with string making. I believe Im getting better using B50. I want to start working with D97, and have been reading up.

When someone is speaking of a "6 strand string", do they mean 6 strands in each bundle for a total for 12 strands in a two color Flemish string?

Or do they mean 3 strands in each bundle for a total of 6 strands in a two color Flemish string?

Thanks

If they refer to the the string strand count, they are talking about the total number.  If they use the word bundle, it will be counting the strands in a separate bundle that will combine with other bundles to make a string.

Total Number of strands ,, Bundles can be two or three bundle for a round string Padding loops is adding more mass those pieces should be only 12" or so long it just makes it easy on limb tips(  nocks)and also will quiet a string

Wow,  So when the that huge thread a while ago regarding O.L.'s skinny string was going on, they were talking about a 4 strand (two in each bundle) string?

Thanks for the replys

Yep, 4 total strands is what all the fuss was about!

Holy mackerel! I just received a bow in trade that has a 10 strand B50, and I thought that was skinny as all get out. At least I think its B50. While separating it, each individual strand was very stringy, almost like thin human hair.

I make my own strings Zmonster and I've asked someone that same question about a 4 or 6 strand string and that is exactly it ...I for one don't mind  my arrow being a few feet per second slow and as long as the arrow can get the job done with a 14 or 16 strand string...Meaning 7/8 per bundle...It's not worth loseing a bow to me and I have been curious as to what this will do to the limbs after time? Wonder if it "Shocks" the limbs so to speak if you know what I mean...I'm no bowyer or do I work in a string factory that tests these things but I can sleep at night knowing my 14/16 strand string aint done no harm to my limbs yet! God Bless, Keefer's <")))><
