Guys, I've been having all kinds of pic posting problems...this is the first I've been able to post in over a month!  I have some catching up to do....

I still can only add one at a time....

The turkeys have been tough for me this fall. Several close calls, but no birds on the ground till this morning!

On a tip from a good friend, I went to scout a new spot. I got right up on some birds that were hitting some oak trees. So I knew right where I needed to be.

I set up my DB Darkhorse in the cover of darkness and waited for daylight in the coolness of 38 degrees.

As it got light, I started to hear birds within earshot on the roost. Then I heard some cackle as they hit the ground.

Check out how effective the Ground Swat camo is in the fall. Besides the black window, it all but disappears....

I could hear birds over the hill on and off for about 20 minutes, but nothing showed up, so I decided to cluck and yelp a few times on my slate call.  I didn't even have the call out of my hands and I could see birds literally running right at me!

No master, believe me it's just pure determination and deer season hasn't started yet    ;)

These birds came like they hadn't heard another turkey in weeks! I think there was about 7 of them, but to be honest I don't know 'cause I was concentrating on the first bird that pulled up at about 15yds and kept walking in slow till it was at about 10yds.

My plan was to let them all come in, to see what else showed up, because I knew there were some gobblers around.

But a turkey at 10yds. was more that I could take and arrow and string were in the air. With a loud "crack", it dropped,flopped...then stopped.

Then a couple more came right in, and I debated shooting another, but two things kept me from ending my season right there.

One, I didn't have my tracker attached to another arrow yet, and two, I really wanted to get a gobbler with my second tag.

Eventually, my bird started flopping around and tumbled down the hill to my left. That was enough to send all the other birds back where they'd come from.  When I got out of the blind, this is what I saw over the hill......

I went and recovered the bird, but it took another shot to finish. Somehow the arrows had just broke the near wing and cut across the top of it's back, and never made it into the body cavity. Ya just never know what's gonna happen when you release an arrow at a turkey.......

My  "sticshooter" knife that will be used and probably abused all season.....

A satisfying  walk .....

Nicely done Curt. I have been out a few times looking for em, no fresh sign. Havent seen em in a few weeks...maybe later.

Now that rather large seven pointer, and that big black bear....they are all around my stands.

I shot a hen back in my pre-trad days. Arrow took of the near wing and deflected up and away through the tree tops. I go her after a 30 yard race. Amazing how feathers can deter a BH...
