A week from Saturday and I'll be heading to WV with some friends and I'll be carrying my Silvertip and my new Marriah Thermal with me.  Below is a pic of the Thermal.

Hopefully, I'll also be carrying a Ziricote and Bocote Hunter knife James Emmons built for me to match the Thermal.  I personally think it will look great with the Silvertip, too.  Below are pics of the Emmons Ziricote and Bocote Hunter knife:

Both nice bows Bill....Schafers are hard to beat.

Beautiful bows, Bill.  I've yet to find a sweeter shooting bow than the Schafer I traded for this last year.

Good lookin' bows Bill.  I've gone through a few bows myself in recent years. I think curiosity is what gets to us. In my neck of the woods there aren't many trad shooters so in order to try different bows, I pretty much have to buy them.

The two bows pictured in this thread are both in the top three of the recurves I've owned and shot.  Number 3 would be a Dale Stahl T/D recurve.  Dale builds some gorgeous bows and all of the ones I've owned have been great shooting bows.  I wish I still had the last one I owned, Bocote riser and the limbs had Bocote veneers over Actionboo laminations.  You think maybe I like Bocote?   :)

Bill I expect to see a picture of you with that Schafer up here near Kumbrabow ,here on Tradgang. Be quite of how beautiful that country is SHHHHHHH , it is awsome even though there are not as many deer as at one time.

You'll love that Schafer - I have 2 love em .

Bill, Dave does his own checkering.  He carves and whittles a little too:

WildmanSC

Steve,

Thanks for the information.  I know the checkering he did on by bow is gorgeous and is not the standard look of checkering I've seen on his bows.  I love the carving he did on your bow above and below the checkering!    :biglaugh:

Jack the first year I went hunting in WV, we stayed in the same cabin that we'll be staying in this year.  We went up during the first week of gun season.  We arrived late Wednesday night and we were up bright and early Friday morning and in the woods.  We hunted all day Thursday, all day Friday and until noon on Saturday.  In two and a half days of hunting I saw 84 deer in the woods with my rifle in hand.  Unfortunately, it was bucks only and I saw only one buck and I didn't see him until he was running up the side of a hill going away from me across a little creek bed.

Over the years, we'd drive out Turkeybone road through the forest and out the other end through the farms to see how many deer we could see.  Until about 5 or 6 years ago we'd see 50-75 deer that evening and that was just the deer we could see and count.  The last two years I hunted, I saw a total of two deer in the woods with my bow in hand and they weren't close enough for a shot.  We didn't see more than a half dozen or so while driving Turkeybone the night we arrived, on Sunday when we went out to scout and the 5 days, M-F, that we hunted.  It became very discouraging.

The last year anybody from the camp went up to hunt was 3 years ago.  They saw more deer in the brief time they were, but they were hit by a blizzard on Tuesday that knocked down trees and tree limbs all over the place.  They even lost power in the cabin.  They headed back on Wednesday morning.

The winter kill can be real bad in the high country . The mast is spotty, if the Cherry hits everything does well if not ,well you know the answer .

Good luck and let us know how you do.
