Had some fun this morning down in Southern Pa where the season opened up. Got myself scared a bit with two coons. I didn't see them at all and I was using binos to look for deer. All the sudden, the one was there taking up the entire field of view! They ran back and forth a couple times before disappearing for the morning.

I saw several deer all walking a trail around 40-50 yds away. I know which trail I'm hitting tonight!

Anyone have any good stories?

No good stories here but did see some does early and almost hit a nice buck with my car on the drive to my hunting area.

I saw two doe as close as 40yds. I also had a coon come by me at first light. First one I remember seeing while hunting.

Saw a total of 3 deer, all does. All in all a good day in the woods, couldn't beat the weather. Saw plenty of other wild life including 4 young Grey Squirrels wrestling with each other on the side of a Shag Bark Hickory tree for over an hour, very comical indeed   :biglaugh:  Hopefully I'll get into the deer later on this week. Good luck fellows............IJ

Sounds like you all atleast saw deer. Was out "mentoring" a potential new bowhunter, she couldnt sit still for long ,but it was fun.I thought she was bored and wouldnt want to go out again in the afternoon. She surprised me though. We saw squirrels,a groundhog and a big gobbler. She did see one deer as we were walking out in the near dark.I didnt mind giving up a day to take a youth along.Good luck everyone.

Slept in until 8 then got up and went for a stillhunt on state forest lands. Ran smack into 2 dirtbag dirtbikers riding logging roads.

Hoofed it in to a food plot on SGL in the afternoon. Jumped a spike on the way in. Almost stepped on him before he jumped up. I thought that big grayish brown thing was a rock until it jumped up. Skeered the bejabbers out of me.

Was having a good time until 8 ATVers came rumbling through the food plot I was watching about 45 minutes before the end of legal shooting time.

I hate weekends, dirtbikes, and ATVs.

I saw 4 bucks, 4 does and about a dozen turkeys.  The bucks that I saw had to be the 4 smallest ones in PA. lol.  All of them together couldn't have made P&Y.  But it was still fun and I can't wait to get back out on Tuesday.

I was on State Forest land.Deer poop everywhere.Acorns droping.Didn`t see a deer. But then, maybe some did go by when i was napping from time to time.It was a nice day to be out in the woods.I did have fun watching the chipmunks chaseing each other.I was expecting a hawk to swoop down at some, with all the racket they were making.Mondays another day.

I saw a hawk being chased by a bunch of crows...talk about racket! No luck at all on the evening hunt, but I'll be back next Sat. morning. Hopefully I'll see the same ones again, just about 30 yards closer this time.

I was hunting with my girlfriend it was her first day of hunting in her life. I was hoping she would see something so I could keep her interested. I don't know why I thought I could get her a deer sighting when in 3 years all I have seen is 4 deer. I remember the good old days before Gary Alt when you could see 20 or more deer in a day. How can you keep new hunters interested if you can't see any deer. I do all my good hunting in VA shot 6 bucks in the last 3 years down there whats wrong with this picture when you have to go to another state just to see deer or kill one. I would love to find a place in my area were I could take her to see some deer. Dose anyone have a suggestions I live in the carlisle pa area. Thank You for letting me vent. Darren

I had to work so only got out until 8AM.  I had a big fat baldie at 6 yards but didn't want to mess with her because of work.  I also heard 5 or 6 turkeys fly down and saw a black squirrel, not a bad outing for just a very short time.

I woke up this morning with high anticipation of a day off, got dressed, ate breakfast and then headed for the back door only to see the rain falling steadily.  The weather forecast was for a nice day.  Darn.  I don't hunt in steady rain and will wait until this evening.

I'm seeing deer, turkey and the occasional bear on my daily rides around the county and here at the home farm.  It's all very encouraging.
