Last night while hunting over a bean field where I have seen this giant buck I had a forky walk in. I was on my knees in some sage with my "brush" camo on. The forky walked right down the deer trail I was straddling (there are a bunch and I couldn't help but be on one). He stopped at 30.5 inches, the length of my arrow, and smelled the Muzzy phanton that has already blown through a doe in Kentucky this year. When he turned to step around the arrow he took a step forward and stepped on my left boot. I told him "Boo" because I got a little nervous with those sharp hoove, and he just backs out and stares for a few minutes then walks off stifflegged! I wish I could have video of that because after 20 years of bowhunting that was the coolest thing that has ever happened to me!

That is cool. I had a little doe walk right by at a few ft last year. It's cool to get them in THAT CLOSE.

2madjacks

That's one of the best I have heard yet! Too cool!!

**DONOTDELETE**

wow. Great story. did you use any kind of scent killer?

wapiti792

Yes Sal had on camo that is carbon lined and sprayed down really good when I left the truck with store-bought scent killer. Have not really bought into the whole carbon stuff esp elk hunting because of the sweat factor but bought new camo that had it built in this year. I kinda think I'll be wearing it most hunts now!

How was your wind? i love my carbon suits but it would make a difference with the wind?

NorthernCaliforniaHunter

That is a crazy story! If only he knew...

Thanks for sharing!

I had a buck fawn butt my shoulder once--pre- ScentLok, too! I was sitting in a clump of trees in an orchard. Way cool.

Doeboy had a SE wind in my face/quartering to him so he never had the wind. Prob would have bolted if he had the wind. I have found ANY critter that gets your wind is gonna blow out. Having said that I think carbon works well in a fickle wind and might buy you some time! This little guy made my day!

i am a believer in carbon, thats why i asked. i think anything that can help give a slight advantage is worth it. thanks for the reply!

P.S. Great story!

straitera

Good story. Experiences in the woods you'll never see on the couch. Doe smelled my hand on my knee once.

The next time he will ever get this close to a human being, he probably won't be breathing!

That is way too cool...!  I've had them "eyelash" close but have never been stepped on.. Wow

Thats alittle too close for comfort in my book.  15ft was the closest I had a deer come to me while on the ground.  I was nervous then too.

I guess you dont need to change anything on your camo setup.  I would say it is performing flawlessly.

Touched one last year while still hunting.  I think getting stepped on would even be cooler.

While hunting Mule deer a few years ago in North Texas, I build a ground on side of dry creek bed. Midday in the warm Texas sun I fell asleep and was wakened by the nose of a Mule deer on my ear!!  :campfire:
