Shleprock, This is first time I've ever shot 3 with a bow in a season much less 8 days. lol   The public land I'm hunting is overrun with does. I gave her to a coworker whose husband has lost his job. Hope to shoot a few more to donate to the local food pantry. Do you ever shoot with the group up at town hall in the mornings?

Looking forward to hearing it. I didn't make it out this weekend. too much work to do. My brother killed 2 does Saturday night. Killed one of them with a knapped chert point.

Counted coup on 15 separate deer at less than 10 yards this weekend. 3 bucks, but none big enough for this early. Besides; I would have had to drag them through flooded timber, and up a big hill. Too lazy for that.

Chuck, I am glad to see I am not the only one lets the distance and difficulty of the drag affect their decision.

Yesterday my brother and his girls came over to visit. We worked around the house for awhile and was gettin kinda bored with doin chores, honey do's. He asked if we could go for a walk in the woods. I normally wouldn't go stompin around my deer woods this time of year, but we barely ever get to hang out anymore so I didn't think twice about it.
A quick change of clothes and we were off. It was about 5:30. Ofcourse I grabed my Killum and tags.I moved here in February and he's never been in this woods. I led him through the bottoms west all the way to the far feild. We pushed a few out but were having a great time just being in the woods together. We started heading back a little after 6 and stuck to the soybean side. I had been trying to avoid the corn side of the woods.
As we steped out into the field headed east about 150 yards short of the treeline. I stoped a little short and pointed out a nice buck standing at the end. The setting sun was shining on him and I figured we looked like shadows. I know he seen us. He looked a little jittery right away. We stood and talked about it for a minute and I decided I would see how close I could get. The wind being in my face. I dropped down pulled an arrow out and started belly crawling along the edge of the beans. About 50 yards later I started checking for the buck and couldn't find him. Went another 10 and snuck a peek again. Not there. The whole time I'm thinking he took off a long time ago and my brother is laughing at me crawling through the mud. About another 10 and I raise up a little for a look. I catch something out of the corner of my eye to the left. I lower back down and he's standing about 20 yards parralel to me. Now what to do. I nocked an arrow and started to raise up and figured I was busted. He looked right at me but I was staying low. He just kept standing there and looking back and forth from me back out down the field. The land rose up a bit where he was at so all I could see was from the neck up. Next thing I knew he was off to the woods. I drew back and grunted. There was a pause in his step, but not long enough for a clean shot.
What I didn't know was the whole time my brother had been hunched over swaying back and forth making mild little grunts and the buck apparently was headed over to take a look. When he looked at me my brother would move and make a noise again. If I had known this or seen the buck a commin a little sooner. Or just jumped up I might have had a good shot. I gotta say though all the maybes in the world and It was still great. I've never tried that before or really anything like that. I sure got awlful close to at least a good 130 class deer crawling through the mud on the edge of a bean field. I didn't take a sloppy shot and I'm not gonna second guess any of it. It was a really cool experiance and my brother was there with me.

Cool story Schleprock, I enjoy hunting more with my bro as well. I am really happy to see my brother carrying a recurve this year. Hopefully since he's having good luck he'll stick with it.

Shleprock & Waknstak IL --- Been enjoying your stories.. I was raised in Marion/Johnstoncity -- really enjoyed the hunting opportunities - your in one "heck" of a great hunting area.

I finished my militray time (21 + yrs) at Scott AFB. I still have daughters in that area going to college and raising families.

Man wish I had those hunting opportunities again...

Feel blessed and enjoy every minute...

Good luck !

I suddenly find myself with a day off tomorrow and it's supposed to stop raining for one day. Been a little rough, but I'll be out in the morning to try again.

Hey Wak. On your earlier ques about Town Hall Archery, I don't go up there and shoot. I have one time. It's on my to do list. I've gone up for a few minutes and talked to some of the Sat. morning guys. Seem like great people. I only live about a mile from there.
