I have always had good luck sharpening most everything with several different systems.  I was reading kingwouldbe's thread about sharpening grizzlies and started thinking about that visible bur.  In the past I have always sharpend stuff as if I was cutting in to the stone.  After reading his thread I thought if I go the other way with my lansky I can very quickly establish a bur on the edge then move to my less agressive stones and it falls off then I strop it and it is super sharp.  It is just easier for me to know when I can go to a less aggresive stone.  It can't be wrong if it works can it?  Anybody else do that?

I tend to use a circular motion, but what 'sharpster ron' (KME Sharpeneing Systems) told me was that no matter how you establish your wire edge, just make sure you get one.  Then, to take it off, cut toward the blade lightly.  If using his tool it's easy because you can do a stroke or two then flip the blade, and repeat as needed.  Easy!!  todd
