I bought some Beaman 500's yesterday. I decided to bare shaft tune them. I started at full length and never did cut them. Here is why....

I am shooting a recurve; 43lbs at 28in. I draw a half inch more than that, so about 44-45lbs.

I put 125 gain points in the full length arrow and it showed stiff? I put in 200 grain points and the arrows hit where I wanted. Nice straight shaft in the bullseye.

Has anyone else had to put this kind of weight up front and leave them full length just to get them shooting correctly?

The charts said I should be able to cut them to correct length and be able to tune them fine. That is NOT the case.

Any input?

Also, how do you get inserts out that have been apoxied in place?  I did some of the HIT inserts wrong?

I shoot a pair of Dan Toelke Whips, 54# at my 29" draw. I shoot MFX 500's 30 3/8" throat of nock to b.o.p. with 345 grs. up front 655 grs. total wt. 168 f.p.s., after bare shafting and paper tuning they fly beautifully, penetration is great and they are QUIET!

Sorry, I missed your last question. I would wish you good luck getting the epoxied inserts out but I know from experience that even luck won't make them come out.

Holy crap! You have 345 grains up front out of a 54 pounder. I only have 200 grains. Crap! I must still be WAY too stiff.

How did you add that much weight up front? I though the shafts were too thin for brass inserts.

I am shooting them from a 56 pound Super Shrew.  Arrows cut to 28 inches (I only have a 27 inch draw) with 75 gr. brass inserts and 200 gr. Grizzly Stik Samurais.    

44# hoyt gamemaster 2 shooting beman ics bowhunters full length with 100 gr. heads...thats all. BUT my bow is cut way past center and each bow shoots different. this combo gives me a 386 gr. arrow that really zips thru stuff.

I have a JK Traditions Kabekona longbow 43@ 28 Im shooting Beman 500's full length with 200grs up front. They shoot great.

I'm shooting 28" long MFX 500's with 200 gr total point weight out of a 54#@28 Shrew Samurai (drawn to about 27")...great arrow flight!

I'm shooting them through a bow that is 51# @ 28 " with 100 grn tips and 100 grn inserts @ 30" in length. hope this helps.

I shooting 28.5" MFX 500's with 100 gr insert and 250 gr broadhead out of a 50 # @ 28" Black Widow PSR.  Arrows fly great and bow is quiet.

I am shooting out of a checkmate firebird model and also a Samick hawkeye model that are 49 lbs at 28 inch and I have the arrows cut to 29 1/2 inch.

I have a total weight of 630 gr. this is made up of .243 copper bullet inside of shaft and then filled with 1/8 inch poly rope, I also am using 9/32 125 gr tgt tips and also 125 gr BH's. the arrow is fletched with 3 5.5 bananna cut feathers.

I'm shooting MFX Classics cut to 29.25" with 100 gr. inserts, 125-145 gr. points plus 25 grs. of aluminum footing for at least 250 grs. total up front and 555 grs. total weight. I shoot a 56" Beeler longbow cut to center and 51# at my almost 27" draw length with a D97 string and NO string silencers. Perfect arrow flight and very quiet.

beman 500's are my main hunting arrows, they fly straight and true if i do my part.

55# @ 29" mohawk td 62" longbow

when it comes to carbon shafts, the 'charts' are nearly meaningless, imho.  as always, ymmv - each of us need to find out what works best for .... us

It sounds like what I'm hearing is these shafts are WAY more stiff than they say.

as are most carbons, compared to the 'charts'.
