I was thinking of buying a longbow and was going to have it built. Was looking to pick the brains of a few people who have them. I have a 27" draw leanth. I want to shoot 2219's that I have made up but are too stiff for my lighter bows. They weigh in at 750gr 300 upfront. I want them to chrono around 170-175fps.

can you guys tell me if you have a bow set up like this and what the draw weight is

You are gonna need to get a better than average performer, and shoot 75#.  With the top performers, you would be able to go down to around 70#.  I've never had the need for that much weight, but only hunt deer and hogs.

I think you are wanting to go about the bow the wrong way. Can you pull around 70#+ and shoot it all day?

I am partial to Chek-Mate bows, very nice craftsmanship.

i think yer putting the horse before cart.

assemble a weapon package by first determining how much draw weight you can safely and accurately hold/shoot, then through testing you can determine what arrow type, spine, length, and weight will perform best for you outta that bow.  for hunting arrows, try to stay in the higher gpp numbers, at least 10 gpp.

All you need is a 75 or 80lb bow at your draw length shooting a FF string.  :D  I guess you are planning on hunting some pretty tough animals somewhere to need such a heavy arrow moving at those speeds.Good luck with them.

Arrows are a lot cheaper than bows...

Rob I beleive it's the cart before the horse.
I shoot 60-75lbs at 27'' and a 2219 was too stiff for all but a Widow recurve.W/ a longbow,I would think you need to be in the 80lbs range.
I do agee w/ going at it backwards or maybe you are looking to see if the arros will work w/ what bows you have?

You will need a heavier draw weight.I had a 21st Century Nova 62",73#@27 that gave me the performance of what you are looking for.What are you planning to do with this tackle?

'the cart before the horse' makes logical sense (as one would expect to see a horse pulling a cart), and 'horse before the cart' sez to me the cart is pulling the horse, which is as illogical as picking a bow to match an arrow you already have ... ?    :D

I shoot 2219 at 29.5"  with 180 grains up front, they bare shaft excellant.  They are shot out of a Widow PL 65@28.  Just a ideal of what you may need.

Thanks for all the info guys... Yes I do understand about building the bow then arrows but i was looking to go w a heavier bow arrow set up. I dont have a prob w/heavier bows... not shooting all day....LOL... I may just go with a 66#.. Doing the numbers, that might work best and not wear me out shooting all day.
