Greetings. I'm new to the forum but not new to traditional archery. I've got a 58" longbow that I'm wanting to finish with Copperhead skins but I'm not having any luck finding any. I've searched this site and all the usual vendors but no luck.

Does anyone have a lead on some Copperhead skins? Thanks in advance.

Copperhead skins are hard to come by. If you cruse country roads in the evenings this time of year you will find snakes seeking the warmth of the asphalt. You might just find what you are looking for...or a good substitute.

Hope it helps but they are kinda high I thought but like Pat B said "hard to come by"

I've tried all the links at the top, but no luck.

During my search, I found a few bad opinions about American Head Hunters, but I may give them a try. Anyone who is in business long enough ruffles a few feathers.

I'll also shoot snakewood3 a pm.

Moscow hide and fur,  They have them from time to time.
Take a look they have a lot of other cool things also.   :bigsmyl:

I killed one the other day... All I have done to it so far is salt it becuase I am not sure what to do.  Only problem is that it is only about a foot long.

I love snakeskins on my bow limbs, but have often wondered about the "legallity" of using skins of some snakes, particularly from a copperhead. I lived in Tennessee for 16 years, and I'm pretty sure that copperheads were protected there, if not nationally. If so, I would presume you could get you in some hot water, especially coming through customs with such a bow or upon being checked out be a knowlegable game warden, or in selling copperhead skins. Anybody know what the rules are?

I got run out of my stand two evenings in a row by a brown thrasher a few years ago. After the 2nd evening I realized the bird was after the copperhead(covered bow)laying across my lap.
Most of the copperheads I find are 18" or less. I usually kill 2 or 3 a year. Both of my dogs have been bitten at least 3 times each. My choc lab now has a certain "snake" bark to get my attention and has learned to keep her distance.

I was one who had problems with American Headhunters.  All I got out of my order was $50.00 poorer.
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.

I've never done business with American Headhunters but glad to hear about your guy's experience makes me a little leary. I just found it during a search. you guys weren't kidding copperhead skins are hard to come by. thay are not protected here as far as I know. I'll be finding out and if not I know where to find them the right time of year.

I believe Tennesse has laws against killing / selling any type of snake, copperheads included. This time of year cruise asphalt country roads, particularly near southeastern facing rocky / cliff areas..hint. Have fun, but be darn careful.

I have dealt with American Headhunters with no issues. They even went as far as holding orders until they received something close to what I needed.

They also supply skins to some bowyers as well.

I have a couple at home. Let me know if your deal falls through. I was going to put them on some takedown limbs I had, but decided not too. My son can send some pictures to me if need be.
