what's the shortest amount of time you spend in a stand/blind at a time?

This season I'm not going to have big chuncks of time to spend out hunting. It looks like it might just be 1-2 hours at a time a lot of times I go out. Does anyone kill deer spending that kind of time in the woods?

I hunted for about an hour at a time in stand/blinds tons of time while I lived in WI.  Killed lots of animals that way.

Yes! Twice I've killed deer before getting completely settled in to hunt, no more than 5 minutes in place. Stalk your stand, and be very quiet getting in place, and they can be there before you're completely ready.

I'll go even if all I have is 1/2 hour, especially during the rut. I will look for easy to get to spots that I can slip into after work. I've always figured the more time spent in the woods the better chances I've got.

I killed my first buck less than 15 minutes after getting to the stand. It was a last minute decision to go hunting that evening, because the weather was moving in. Started raining when I was halfway to the truck with him.

Last season because of a long drive home from work some nights I could only spend 45 minutes on stand...  All I know is that you cant get a deer killed in the house.  Hunt whenever and however long you can.

I've killed 2 deer while walking to my stand. Any time in the woods is an opportunity.

Any time spent in a blind or on stand is good time. You never know when that magic moment can happen, the longer the better but if you only have a hour...go for it....good luck!!!

I have lost track of how many I have killed first or last hour.  So if that is the option I would go for it.  1-hour that is more than 2-hr. after sun up or before sun down in the early part of the year would be low percentage hunting around me.  In the rut I would take any hour I can get.

Sometimes late in the season when i have hunted hard all year i will hunt the last 45 minutes in the afternoon, usually on a green field.

I left my office late one day and headed to a stick ladder stand with a lock on I had just put up in the woods.  I had been throwing corn at this location.  The weather was right and I felt good about the hunt.  When I parked my car I had about 1 hr of daylight left. I took my tie off, and with pink shirt, black dress slacks, alligator boots and bow in hand I headed to my stand.  I had about a 15 minute walk.  The weather had been pretty dry so it wasn't too hard on my alligator boots. (LOL) With little daylight left, I climbed up, pulled up bow, knocked an arrow and before I sat down a doe came walking under my stand.  And wearing pink shirt, black dress slacks and black alligator boots, I put an arrow through both lungs.  She ran 25 yards and piled up.  WOW!  That was crazy!

Trooper,

That is a good story. I hope some of the guys that think you have to buy the latest, greatest, scentlock high dollar camo read your post.

Last season I killed a deer less than five minutes after climbing into my stand. Two days ago was WI's opening day, and I had one on the ground within the first 45 minutes of legal shooting light.

That's not the norm, but sometimes it does happen. Either way, you can't fill a tag if you're not out there.

I have deer come by within the first hour most of the time. Think about where your spot is and time it accordingly.

About 2005 season late October, My Hunting Buddy Molson took me to a great piece of property in our home County. He walked me to the stand and then went to his honey hole. He was just up in his stand about 150 yds away when I shot a doe. A nice buck chased her into my area. Maybe 10 min in the stand. That has never happend again.

Trooper, Have you got any pictures? I've got to see that! LOL  Ben
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

Have shot four going to my stand in my wheely days. Last year I had just gotten to my ground blind and was camoing up my atv when out he came must have been deaf.

15 minutes in the woods is better than 15 minutes in the house....
