Folks I know that have used them say to use them at the right time, when the bucks are ready for a challenger. (pre-rut?) Rattle, then see if someone shows up. If he's mature, snort wheeze at him. That usually makes them wanna come over and knock your decoy over. Remember, they'll prolly come over and approach him from down wind. If he licks his nose while coming in, he's ready to whoop a$$. On the other hand, I've had times during the rut when you could throw rocks at a buck and not get his attention. LOL

p.s. Spray him with some buck scent and don't get your scent all over him.

I have a Featherlite decoy which you can remove the antlers - I have had no luck with it as a buck but I have had luck with it as a doe.

I like the looks of the flambeau Boss Buck but dont know about quality and ease of assembly quietly in the field

I've used the Carry - Lite decoy and have had success with it as a buck. I rotate the ears back to make it look like its mad and ready for a fight. All I do is set it up where it will be visible from a distance then rattle and wait for a response. If a buck sees it from a distance but holds up you can snort wheez to get him to respond.

I used a decoy without horns, a few years ago; pre-rut. I set it up in a small meadow off the side of a larger field. I had five or six does and yearlings come into the meadow, but they seemed spooked by decoy; it was standing w/head in the alert stance. In retrospect, I would try to make it appear feeding if I did it again.

Have not felt the need to try again. It was just an experiment.

I made this decoy with old political signs and a few cans of spray paint. The antlers are removable for either sex. My next one will be a feeding doe for a confidence decoy.
