I had picked out a  what looked like great  spot in our ceders for ground hunting in my ghillie (rancho safari). I went there this morning to check on the deer activity and if I had to do any trimming so I can get a shot off. Im 10 yards off a trail, is this to close to try and get away with a shot?

I have fallen trees behind me and really nothing in front of me. Not sure if I will be to exposed at that close range or not. Im new to the Ghillie suit scene, so any advice would be welcomed!  

Shaggie's are DEADLY... I've used mine for years in exactly your set up. I build a blind out of brush and sit in front of it...
Let the deer walk PAST you then draw slow... You will get them killed. Nothing in bowhunting is more exciting than hunting on the ground.

Take the slightly quartering away shot...at 10-12 yds its the perfect setup, especially with your Ghille suit.

Having deer that close is what Trad Archery is all about. Just keep your mouth closed so your heart doesn't jump outa there!  :rolleyes:  Best Of Luck! I like your set-up.

You'll be fine. Shot my closest at 4 yards on the ground without a ghillie.

As stated above you will be fine.  I got my first elk 2 yards off the trail, just wearing Predator camo.  Just practice in that Gillie Suit as much as possible and make sure that nothing can get in the way that will spoil a shot.

I thought with their 180 degree  vision they would surely see you move when drawing. I assume your bow is in you lap or somewhere other than close to a draw position when you first see the deer -so you have 2 movemnets- getting bow up and drawing- right?   Can you come on back with draw smoothly and pretty slowly or do you have to inch back REAL slow to get away with it?  
And lastly do you need good camo or dark bow limbs or will that beautiful osage or light yellow bamboo look like a wand waving out there?

Last season I counted coup on a little button buck with my longbow. It scared him so bad he fell down trying to run away. Unfortuneately I laughed out loud and I think ruined my chances for the rest of the evening. Put on your Ghille and sit still they will offer you your shot. If you are right handed and the deer is quartering away to the left the movement of your right arm is at the very back of the deer's vision. Draw slow and aim small (10 yds. is not always a gimmie )

I've never yet had a deer spook while drawing on it... You MUST let the deer walk past you. If I'm ready I will have the bow bottom tip resting on my boot holding the bow vertical in front of me. Draw straight back slowly.  I think like a bush "hiding" behind my bow.. LOL  

Stay as calm as can be and you will get them killed.  I seem to fall apart after the shot. I have gotten better with time but I always want to fall apart at least a little bit. So much fun bowhunting from the ground.

I have had deer so close I could touch them with my bow tip. You talk about heart pounding!!!

Well, this sounded like so much fun that I ordered my own Ghillie today!
