I hear ya Russ, I can build myself any style of bow I want but I just cant seem to stop looking at that Predator recurve Vermonster has for sale! I have wanted one of them before I started building bows over 14 years ago and I still havent owned one! VERY tempting!

Well Jason all you have to do is tempt me with one of yours maybe.    :D

Jason, I looked at that one too, but I had Dave measure the grip and it's a bit large for my hands. Besides, I am a sucker for a longbow...as if you didn't know, lol! I bet I know a guy who could customize the grip to fit your hand and shoot it with a few coats of Thunderbird though.

Tom, I'm putting the rest of my fun money in my Alaska fund. If I don't make it next spring I'll be there the next one for sure. PM or email me the details on the bear. I think about you guys often. Can't wait to get back up there...no place like the Kenai Peninsula. You and Bill Sant were gracious hosts who made a great trip even more special.

Josh, sorry buddy. I saw your post and felt a twinge of guilt...but I think I'm over it now    ;)
I'll keep you all posted on the Nomad. If it shoots as good as it looks I'll be thrilled.

Spike - I emailed you back. I'll be haunting the mailman.

Russ...I'm not sure I can get the sad smell of last year's season out of my hunting cloths, but I guess this thing will give it a run for its money!  Last season really stunk!  Then my horrible shooting

Josh...I'll second the darn turkeys idea...since I dare not print what I REALLY think of them.

Looks like you've got quite a nice batch of bows there already. How's the WhisperStik test going?

It's going well...I guess I'm just very lucky!  JD and I are going to try out luck this weekend for deer here in Michigan.  Last year they had a special doe season; you can hunt with a firearm or a bow but either way you have to wear the required orange.  We'll do it the same way this year as we did last...stickbows and orange!

Currently I have a bow that I call "Thor" and we're going to see how many different people can take does with it.  62" Voodoo...60@28", it simply smokes an arrow!  Osage beauty.  My next WhisperStik is a bow that is currently being referred to as "Winner Winner Chicken Dinner".  Never bet a bored insomniac he can't find something  "[dntthnk]"  , you're going to loose every time.  In this case he lost in first class fashion!  Sorry JD couldn't resist.

The Nomad arrived today. She's a beauty.

And man does she shoot!

Three shots at 16 yards with 53# @ 28" limbs.

Fifteen, twenty and twenty-five yards. I held a little low at 25, but I think I would still have a dead deer. Not bad for the first day!

Zwickey Deltas with steel inserts (235 gr.) on Beman ICS Bowhunter 500 shafts with 5" shield cut feathers (about 520 gr. total) at 20 yards. I didn't have guts enough to shoot a third one!

I didn't do a lot of tuning, just some shooting. These are the arrows I have set up for my 52# Kanati. It looks like they will be just the ticket with both bows. Heck they shoot great from my Badger and my 46# Kanati too.

First impressions of the bow: very stable, butter smooth draw, shoots right where you point her. It seems a tad slower than my 52# Kanati and maybe a touch louder to me. My daughter was with me when I shot though and said all she could hear was the arrows hitting the target! To be fair, the Kanati has an 8 strand string with a single set of cat whiskers, while the Kota has what appears to be a Black Widow string with probably 16 strands and a set of four Widow silencers. This could probably account for the slight difference in perceived speed (no chrono). One of these days I'll make up a skinny string for the Kota for an apples to apples comparison. As well as I shoot with it just the way it is, maybe I should leave well enough alone.

Oh, and Josh, that little twinge of guilt went away when my first arrow punched out the orange dot on that bottom squirrel on the target      :saywhat:

This one's a keeper for sure! Thanks for letting her go, Spike.   :bigsmyl:

Everytime I see all these new bows, I keep thinking of those many months I still have to wait for my custom bow. It's a pain!

May you and your new bow live some wonderful years together!
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

Spike

Russ, sure looks like it works for you! Nice shootin. String is a BW 14 strand DF97. I had a 10 strand 450+ on it but it had a broken strand so I setup the one thats on it. I found the 450+ to be a little more quiet than the DF97 on most of my bows.

Thanks, Spike. I've got two spools of D97 that I've made maybe a dozen skinny strings from, so I'll probably be using that for quite a while yet. I'll whip up an 8 or 10 strand string for the Kota and see how it performs. Without a chrono, it's just a guess as to which one is faster, but I can see a bit more drop at 25 yards with the Kota, so I think it's a tad slower. Also, my Kanati started out at 52.75# and may not have dropped as much as Jason anticipated, so the draw weight may not even be a pound different. Add a heavier string and you may have a drop in speed. That doesn't mean the Kota is slow because the Kanati will just plain smoke an arrow!

Speed aside, it is a sweet shooter! And it's found a home

Keep rubbing it in...love the salt!  :biglaugh:

I will order one someday...or save some pennies and buy one next year at Denton Hill.

Tim sent me a 60" Nomad to try last fall...I almost bought that bow.  He refinished the limbs and made a new riser and brought it to Denton Hill, almost bought it there.  It was the Arch Royal addition with the spliced Cocobolo/Curly Myrtle limb veneers with a Cocobolo/Ebony riser.

54@28 pounds and shot like a dream.

Mine looks like kind of a combo. It has the arched riser, but not the spliced limb veneers. That one sounds great too. They draw so smoothly, it doesn't seem like 53#, but it shoots like it.
