While traveling on vacation my uncle ended up giving me a longbow. I am looking for more details on it, and I have a few question, since I don't know much about longbows. It is 45 @28".

Anybody know what kind of bow it is?
Any guess on the proper brace heights? Currently from the string to the closest is 9 1/4", does that sound about right?
Any idea on the materials?

I would like to buy some wooden arrows for it sometime, and I would like to use around 190 grain broadheads with it what would you suggest? I know you need my draw length, but I shoot it differently them my old recurves and my draw lenght is at least 2" longer then before, so I have to get it remeasured.

Thanks,
Chester

looks like a Internature Viper, according to the web site I looked at the brace height should be 8" and Riser is made of walnut and cherry. I can see It has a left hand rest on it, you need a right hand rest or just shoot arrows off of the shelf.

Your bow is a viper l.b..... and the brace hight should be 8" to to 8 1/4" to start with. Do you know what type string you have???. If it has a lot of hand shock to it you prob. have fast flight if so,switch to b50 14 stran and tweek brace hight from there.

Thanks for the help once you told me the name I finally could read it on the bow. Will it hurt the bow shooting it with the 9 1/4" brace height?

You should have it checked for pounddage on a scale at 45lbs at 28".I would lower the brace hight to 8 1/2 inches  before you put it on the scale, because you dont know the draw length of the person that had the bow before you?...some people who have shorter draw lenghtless then 28" crank up the brace hight to get close to the poundage that the bow is.
Ive been shooting a viper delux 50# at 27" for the last 3 years,I just added 4 more twist to the string to bring it up to 50#.
When I got my bow it had f.f.string on it and it kicked like a mule, after the first night of shooting with f.f. string the next morning I felt like I got into a car reck LOL,... man was I sore the next morning... once you get the bow up the right lbs.You just half to play around with nocking point to the way you shoot, and tweek the string one way or another.
