I've grown bored with the yellow wraps and fletch I'd been using for the last couple years....and since I work in the printing industry I decided on making up some new wraps.  I also read about dying your own feathers with kool-aid so I figured I'd give it a shot.  this is what came out of the first batch:

the feathers on the bottom are pink lemonade, on the top I dumped in some grape after a first run of pink and double dipped.    :)     both are white truflights to start with (chopped at just over 4"...4 fletch @ 90)

not quite as vibrant as I was looking for.  but I was impressed with the color-fastness.  I didn't even add vinegar and nothing came out in the rinse.

the wraps...now I don't wanna give away any secrets and take business away from some of our great sponsors like onestringer et al..but I have access to commercial 4 color printers at work, so I decided to give it a go.  the logo is my touchmark from knifemaking, based on the bio-hazard symbol, three Ms in a circle which are my initials. after wrapping my first reaction is 'none more black' (spinal tape reference).  theres too much black on the back end.  the wrapped nice and I don't think they're coming off any time soon.

opinions please.    :)

and if any of you kool-aid dyers know what flavor for a more vibrant pink, I'm listening???

which wrap design do you like better...the simple fade....or the angular fade?

I think those look great. I prefer the simple fade, but the angular fade is nice too.

That set goes to 11.   :D

I don't think one fade has more cowbell over the other. I wonder what they would look like backwards...

They look great.  I'm going to try it this week.  How long did you dip?

dipped for under a minute.   Think I'm going to try pink lemonade mixed with a little red, and use less water next time....

thanks Killie!   thats what I'm talkin about  :)

I'm lookin at bright berry blue dipped at the back half of the hen feathers and front half of the cock feather.  Reflective wraps on black shafts.  Hope they look half as good as yours.  I'll post when done.  I'll have to buy another 100 whites from Joe Skipp!

ok....tried dying some more feathers and so far I'm liking it.   this time I'm using McCormick Neon food coloring.   Results from about a cup and a half of water, 5-6 drops of "purple", and a teaspoon of white vinegar.

sorry about the photo quality...done with my iphone hastily....
