Anyone know approximately how much it is to ship a takedown bow to/from Australia? Is it complicated?

Not real complicated. There are size restrictions and customs declarations, etc. but it's not too difficult. Since it's a takedown, I'd ship it USPS. The last bow I shipped to Oz was a one piece recurve, and I had to ship it FedEx on account of the length. It cost $175.00.

If you're shipping a bow to someone in Australia, they have to pay an import tax. It's less if you declare the package to be used sporting equipment, if I remember correctly.

You'll have to fill out the long customs form, and pack it well but it's not complicated just a little more time consuming than domestic shipments.  Expect to pay $50-$60 using USPS which would be my recommendation.

It depends on the length,USPS will not ship Internationally anything over 60" long.If you have a T/D ship USPS probably around $40-55.But if it is longer then 60" you have to use a different shipper like UPS or FedX and it will get expensive like $125+.I shipped a T/D bow to Austria for $44.15 but shipped a 70" longbow to France and it was $122.50 and that was two years ago.

It's as simple as going to usps.com and checking rates.   I sent one there for about $42.00 a year or so ago.  USPS shows if you keep the length + girth under 79" it's about 42.95.

George,I just looked at the USPS site for shipping to Austrailia and length + girth has to be under 79" but the maximum length is 42".So it is the maximum length of 42" plus girth can go up to 79".If he is shipping a one piece longbow,he has to go to another shipper.

Yep, for a take-down via USPS, it is about US$40. Well, it was a couple of years ago.

Yep--you have to be careful--some countries have a shorter max length, and Oz is one of them--42" (or a tad longer if you know your postal workers well enough).

I had a T/D recurve and a northern quiver sent over from Wisconsin a couple of weeks ago using USPS and it cost me $52.25 US

It's both: 42" max length, or max 79" length and girth combined.  So unless it is a very long bow, you can make that work with a flat type box.  Two arrow boxes work great for sending recurves.

I recently sent a PSA Widow and quiver to Austrailia, USPS Priority insured was $72.00 and change.

Just received a 56" Beeler by USPS no trouble.

Got lucky with the 56".  I once got a 70" longbow (tube was longer) shipped, and it made it there just fine, only because both I and the postal worker overlooked the length restriction.  It could have just as easily come back, or gotten lost in the mail.

If you ship a lot, ask the folks at the P.O. for the rates catalog.  I got one, and it helps a lot to be able to just look it up before you pack something.

FWIW, it may or may not work to do that. I sent a bow to the UK one time and the clerk overlooked the length restriction. I thought all was well, until about three weeks later I got the bow back. It made it to its destination, but was rejected there on account of the length, and I had to start all over.
